94,200 - 115,200

Annual bonus target, based on the base salary, with a potential payout of up to double the target (subject to personal and company performance):

Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.

About the role

We're looking for a Unit Manager to join our growing team!

This full-time permanent role requires a minimum of three (3) days per week working in the office located at 200 Granville St. Vancouver, BC.
What you'll do here:

  • Develop, recommend, and implement leadership strategies and process/technology improvement initiatives

  • Guide, coach, and develop talented Underwriting Clerks, Assistants and Underwriters and provide technical consultative support to the CSU team regarding customer service and work processes

  • Provide effective leadership by continuously keeping staff informed on changes/results and share responsibility for the overall performance, productivity and engagement of team members

  • Evaluate staff performance and prepare formal Performance Reviews; perform quality reviews on team members to record staff development; and manage staff scheduling and salary administration for the unit

  • Collaborate with other Unit Managers and underwriting teams across the West to recommend ways in which the team can achieve regional goals in pursuit of growth and profitability and to identify ways to create consistency and workflow efficiencies

  • Proactively manage workflow and resources within the CSU team

  • Be responsible for training and development of staff and set and monitor team goals and objectives

  • Play a key and active role in the selection process and hiring of employees who will deliver a legendary level of service to our broker

You succeed at what you do because you:

  • Have a knack for identifying and actioning on gaps in work processes, training, and career development of employees

  • Can think outside-of-the-box to introduce creative and effective ways to approach challenges

  • Have a talent for influencing others to adapt to change

What you bring to the table:

  • 2+ years of leadership experience OR 5+ years of Commercial Underwriting experience at an intermediate level or above

  • Experience in coaching and developing staff

  • Demonstrates the Leadership Success Factors

  • Proven leadership skills

  • Completed or are working toward a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation (preferred)

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of staff and brokers

  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills and capable of working in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong analytical skills and a high attention to detail

  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
