Job Description:

There is an exciting opportunity for a Private Equity Analyst to join Onni Capital in Vancouver.

Onni Capital is a new investment and company building platform within the Onni Group. Operating at the intersection of a venture studio, private equity firm, and family office, we build new companies, invest in exceptional founders, and pursue opportunities where Onni’s capital, operating platform, real estate portfolio, and industry relationships create a meaningful advantage.

Onni Capital is being built from the ground up with the speed, ambition, and working style of a technology company. Our team works across venture creation, technology, private investments, fund investments, and special opportunities.

This role exists to buy and build businesses.

As a Private Equity Analyst, you will support the full transaction lifecycle, from sourcing and screening through modelling, diligence, structuring, and the work that follows a closing. Our active focus includes construction, electrical, industrial services, data centres, and other businesses in the built world where Onni’s operating platform creates an advantage.

This is an opportunity for someone early in their career to work on live transactions from their first months, with direct exposure to the people making the decisions.

Why Onni Capital

Onni Capital invests its own capital. There is no fundraising cycle, no external investment committee, and no requirement to deploy on someone else’s timeline. Good opportunities can be pursued quickly and weak ones can be declined without ceremony.

Onni’s operating businesses generate proprietary deal flow and give real diligence advantage. When evaluating an electrical contractor, an industrial services business, or a data centre opportunity, we can test assumptions against companies we already own and operators we already work with.

How We Work

Onni Capital is being designed as a high ownership, low bureaucracy team.

We work in small project groups, test ideas quickly, put early products in front of users, and make decisions based on evidence rather than hierarchy.

Team members are expected to:

  • Challenge assumptions and communicate directly

  • Take responsibility for outcomes, not simply produce recommendations

  • Use modern AI tools to work faster and produce better results

  • Share unfinished work early and improve it through feedback

  • Move comfortably between strategic analysis and hands on execution

  • Know when to continue investing in an idea and when to stop

  • Operate effectively without a detailed playbook

This is not a role for someone who wants months of consensus building, a rigid job description, or a narrowly defined set of responsibilities.

It is for someone who learns quickly, takes initiative, enjoys solving ambiguous problems, and wants to help build something from the ground up.

What You Will Do

  • Build and maintain LBO, DCF, and operating models, including debt schedules, returns waterfalls, sensitivity analysis, and downside cases

  • Screen inbound and sourced opportunities against investment criteria and prepare screening memos with a clear recommendation

  • Support due diligence across financial, commercial, operational, tax, and legal workstreams, and coordinate external advisors

  • Draft investment committee memos, board materials, and lender presentations

  • Analyse capital structure alternatives and model the impact of different debt and equity structures on returns and control

  • Conduct market and industry research on target sectors, including competitive landscape, customer concentration, margin structure, and consolidation dynamics

  • Support transaction execution, including data room management, issue tracking, and coordination with counterparties

  • Support portfolio company reporting after close, including monthly performance tracking, budget versus actual variance analysis, covenant monitoring, and integration milestones

  • Quantify value creation opportunities across the portfolio, including pricing, procurement, overhead, working capital, and add on acquisitions

  • Support the evaluation of fund investments, co investments, and special opportunities

  • Maintain the pipeline tracker and keep deal status current for leadership

  • Document processes, models, decisions, and operating standards so successful approaches can be repeated across the team

  • Contribute to internal investment discussions, portfolio reviews, and Onni Capital events

    What You Bring

    • Interest in finance, accounting, economics, engineering, or a related field. CFA or CPA candidacy is an asset

    • Strong new graduates with relevant internships in investment banking, private equity, transaction advisory, corporate development, or valuations will be considered

    • Financial modelling capability built from scratch rather than from templates, with a strong command of Excel

    • Sound accounting knowledge, including the ability to normalise EBITDA, assess quality of earnings, and build a working capital bridge

    • Strong commercial judgment and the ability to connect operating detail to valuation and returns

    • Demonstrated ability to use modern AI tools to research, analyze, model, automate, and produce high quality work

    • Strong written communication, with the ability to compress a complex situation into a one page recommendation

    • Strong research and analytical skills, with the judgment to distinguish useful evidence from noise

    • Attention to detail, strong organisation, and the ability to run multiple live workstreams at once

    • The confidence to state a view and defend it while remaining open to evidence and feedback

    • A bias toward action and comfort making progress with incomplete information

    • Comfort working in a small, fast moving team where responsibilities change as deals develop

    • High personal standards for accuracy, quality, ownership, and follow through

    What Makes This Role Different

You will see a transaction from first contact through to post closing performance rather than one slice of the process.

On a single deal, you may be involved in:

    • Sourcing or screening the opportunity through Onni’s operating and industry network

    • Building the operating and returns model that supports the offer

    • Running diligence workstreams alongside external advisors

    • Testing commercial assumptions against Onni’s existing portfolio businesses

    • Structuring the transaction and the financing

    • Drafting and presenting the investment recommendation to senior leadership

    • Supporting integration, reporting, and covenant monitoring after close

    • Measuring whether the original thesis actually held

The expectation is high ownership. You will be accountable for the numbers you put in front of decision makers.
