The Role
BGC is seeking an Intermediate Hydrogeologist or Hydrogeological Engineer with a focus on numerical modelling to join our Groundwater Team. This is an exciting opportunity to support hydrogeological, geological and geotechnical studies related to water, primarily in the mining sector. The successful candidate will support the team's technical work on some of the most complex earth science challenges worldwide, while developing their skills within a culture of mentorship and learning.
Responsibilities
- Conduct hydrogeological site investigation and characterization (soil and rock core logging, groundwater sampling, hydraulic testing), and support conceptual hydrogeological model development and reporting
- Regularly involved in QA/QC of field data and data compilation
- Support hydrogeological and mine water studies across the mining life cycle (exploration, permitting, operations, and closure), under the guidance of senior staff
- Support or lead the development of numerical groundwater flow models based on field data interpretations and conceptual hydrogeological models
- Assist with scripting and automating modelling workflows (e.g., using Python) to enhance efficiency and reproducibility
- Collaborate with engineers and geoscientists on multi-disciplinary teams (hydrogeology, geology, geochemistry, mine waste, mine water, rock mechanics)
- Contribute to, and may occasionally lead, report preparation, including figures, drawings, and technical writing
- Occasionally participate in proposal preparation, budgeting, and scheduling
- May assist with client communication and meeting preparation
- Regularly involved in field work with more senior team members; may occasionally lead routine field investigations
- Regularly involved in health and safety planning
Required Education, Experience & Competencies
- Graduate degree in geoscience, geological engineering, or a related discipline (a graduate degree with a groundwater modelling-focused thesis is considered an asset)
- Registered as an EIT/GIT or working toward/eligible for P.Eng. or P.Geo. registration
- 4–8 years of relevant professional experience in hydrogeology, with growing exposure to numerical modelling
- Familiarity with scripting for modelling and data management
- Exposure to groundwater and/or geotechnical modelling software (e.g., MODFLOW, HydroGeoSphere, FEFLOW, SEEP/W, Leapfrog)
- Exposure to mining hydrogeology (e.g., mine water management, mine wastes) is an asset
- Strong communication and technical writing skills
- Collaborative, self-motivated, and eager to learn in a team-oriented environment
- Willingness to travel and work in the field, including remote locations
- Fluency in French (spoken and written) is considered an asset
Position Requirements
Drug & Alcohol Testing
To ensure we meet our client’s compliance requirements and our workplace health and safety commitments, BGC has a drug and alcohol policy that applies to this position. The policy states that an employee may be required to take a drug and alcohol test prior to engaging in field work. This testing could be requested within an employee’s first week or in the future, as required. It is important to note that some clients also require random drug and alcohol testing, and/or testing in the event of a health and safety accident or incident.
Driver’s License
BGC requires that employees have a valid driver's license, and that employees can drive a field pickup truck. Upon hiring, BGC will require a driver’s abstract to allow for a safety review of your driving history.

Wage Range
The estimated base salary range for this position is $90,000 - $120,000 CAD per annum, however base pay will be commensurate with job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. BGC's compensation package also includes a discretionary bonus plan, training allowance, and comprehensive medical and dental plan.
