Through its institutional-grade platform, Hiive brings together buyers, sellers, and issuers to facilitate secondary transactions in venture-backed, pre-IPO companies, introducing efficiency, transparency, and standardization to an otherwise opaque asset class.

Recognized as one of Canada’s fastest-growing companies and backed by leading U.S. investors, Hiive is profitable, well-capitalized, and building a high-performance team to meet growing demand and pursue new market opportunities.

As Hiive’s Director, Communications, you will define and lead the company’s communications strategy across external media, executive visibility, social channels, and internal communications. You’ll own how Hiive is understood by the market — shaping our narrative across investors, founders, employees, shareholders, and the broader startup ecosystem.

This is a highly strategic and hands-on leadership role responsible for building and scaling Hiive’s communications function. You’ll oversee media relations, executive communications, thought leadership, brand storytelling, corporate messaging, and internal communications while partnering closely with leadership, product marketing, growth, legal, and design teams.

You’ll play a critical role in elevating Hiive’s brand, strengthening market positioning, and building trust and credibility as we scale.

In this role, your responsibilities would include:

  • Own and lead Hiive’s end-to-end communications strategy across PR, corporate communications, executive communications, social media, and internal communications.

  • Define and evolve the company narrative, messaging architecture, and brand voice across all external and internal touchpoints.

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to company leadership on communications strategy, reputation management, media positioning, and executive visibility.

  • Build and manage relationships with media, journalists, influencers, and external partners to drive high-impact earned media coverage.

  • Lead executive communications and thought leadership initiatives, including press, speaking opportunities, social presence, and industry engagement.

  • Own Hiive’s social media strategy and presence across LinkedIn, X/Twitter, and emerging channels to amplify brand awareness and engagement.

  • Develop integrated communications campaigns that support product launches, company milestones, partnerships, funding announcements, and strategic initiatives.

  • Lead internal communications efforts to ensure alignment, clarity, and consistency across the organization as the company scales.

  • Identify and execute sponsorships, partnerships, and thought leadership opportunities that strengthen Hiive’s market presence and credibility.

  • Support industry events through media outreach, executive speaking engagements, and coordinated communications strategies.

  • Partner cross-functionally with product marketing, growth, design, legal, and leadership teams to ensure consistency and effectiveness across all messaging.

  • Build scalable communications processes, frameworks, and measurement systems to evaluate brand and communications impact.

Required Skills:

  • 10+ years of experience in communications, PR, corporate communications, brand storytelling, or content strategy, ideally within fintech, marketplaces, SaaS, venture-backed startups, or high-growth technology companies.

  • Proven experience leading and scaling communications functions in fast-paced, high-growth environments.

  • Exceptional storytelling, writing, and editorial instincts with the ability to simplify complex financial and marketplace concepts into compelling narratives.

  • Strong track record managing media relations, executive communications, thought leadership, crisis communications, and reputation management.

  • Experience partnering closely with executive leadership teams and acting as a trusted communications advisor.

  • Deep understanding of social media strategy, brand communications, and modern content distribution channels.

  • Strong strategic thinking combined with a willingness to operate hands-on and execute at a high level.

  • Experience working cross-functionally across marketing, product, growth, legal, and leadership teams.

  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity and build programs, processes, and infrastructure from the ground up.

Preferred Skills:

  • Existing relationships with fintech, venture capital, startup, or business media.

  • Experience supporting founder-led or executive-led brand building initiatives.

  • Familiarity with private markets, secondary markets, venture capital, or startup ecosystems.

  • Experience navigating communications in regulated or highly scrutinized industries.

  • Experience managing agencies, contractors, or small in-house communications teams.

Compensation, Benefits & Perks:

  • Highly competitive salary commensurate with experience and contribution.

  • Opportunity to participate in ownership of a rapidly growing company through our employee stock option plan.

  • Comprehensive 100% employer-paid health & dental premiums and a Health/Personal Spending Account for Canadian employees. (An employer-subsidized benefits program is available for US-based team members).

  • If you are based in Vancouver, enjoy a dedicated desk in our Vancouver, BC HQ, in the heart of downtown, with a fridge stocked with healthy snacks and drinks, an onsite gym, and a gorgeous rooftop amenity.

  • Enjoy a $20-per-day commuter benefit for every day you work in our Vancouver HQ.

  • An engaging social calendar, including bi-weekly catered lunches, bi-weekly “Friday bar,” team workouts, annual summer party, and holiday party, two “onsite” all-team retreats each year, semi-annual team-building events, and Hiive Women’s Network events.

  • Significant opportunities for growth into team leadership and management roles.

  • Entrepreneurial culture and a small and dynamic team.

  • Sponsorship, immigration, and relocation for exceptional candidates.
