Adaptive has been running IT for businesses in Greater Vancouver since 2006. We are a managed IT and security services provider based in Burnaby, and our clients are owner-operated businesses, concentrated in long-term care and assisted living, accounting, and legal. Ian Sutherland, one of our two co-owners, has a line he repeats: I didn't start a tech company, I started a service company. That shows up in how we hire. We will take someone who can explain a problem in plain language your mom could understand over someone with a longer certification list. Twenty years in, we are still independent. The Canadian channel has consolidated hard over that period and a lot of the shops we started alongside are now business units inside somebody else. We are not, and that is deliberate. We are a Microsoft CSP partner. Our Google rating sits at 5.0 across more than 200 reviews, which we mention because it is the number that reflects how the work actually gets done rather than how it gets sold. Most of what you need to know about any specific stack can be learned. What is harder to teach is sitting with a frustrated client, working out what they are actually asking for, and answering in language they can use. You will talk to clients directly. There is no layer between you and the person with the problem, which means the work is more exposed and more satisfying than a helpdesk queue at a larger shop.
