What You’ll Be Responsible For

Reporting to our Manager, Operations, you will contribute to project success through various aspects of project management and coordination, depending on your experience level. As a Telecom Project Designer you'll have the opportunity to leverage your expertise while developing new skills. Collaborating closely with Project Managers, technical field staff, drafters, engineers, and municipal partners, your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating outside plant telecommunications designs including civil, cable, and pole line designs for fiber networks (GPON/FTTP), copper, coax cable, and HFC systems
  • Coordinating and managing projects from planning to completion, including engineering, design, data analytics, field data collection, and utility construction
  • Assisting with or leading the preparation of quotes, reviewing SOWs, and reaching consensus with clients on deliverables and expectations
  • Facilitating communications with customers to prepare specifications, explain proposals, and present findings
  • Performing Professional Line Assignments (PLA) and applying industry standards and specifications to ensure high-quality design outputs
  • Supporting financial reporting, forecasting, and resource allocation while mentoring junior team members to ensure project success

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 12–18 months, you'll be:

  • Managing multiple telecommunications design projects while meeting timeline and budget requirements
  • Performing Professional Line Assignments (PLA) with confidence and accuracy
  • Building strong relationships with clients, municipalities, and other stakeholders
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements for greater efficiency
  • Leading and mentoring junior team members in design work
  • Adapting to changing project requirements while maintaining quality standards
  • Creating comprehensive documentation and maintaining project metrics
  • Expanding your expertise across multiple design areas including GPON, FTTx, civil works, and pole line design

What We're Looking For

  • Project Delivery Experience: Demonstrated experience facilitating successful project delivery, team coordination, or management in telecommunications or similar technical domains, including experience with Professional Line Assignment using AutoCAD and Spatial Net
  • Educational Requirements: University/College/Technical School Graduate or equivalent combination of experience and training; telecommunications or engineering background preferred
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in AutoCAD and Spatial Net., understanding of OSP design methods including GPON, FTTx, Building Entrances, MDU, Civil, Copper, Pole Lines, and Feeder Fibre.
  • Project Management Excellence: Ability to plan projects, identify risks, manage ongoing projects, and create comprehensive status reports
  • Strategic Communication: Strong ability to communicate professionally with all stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, and team members
  • Problem-Solving Mindset: Well-organized, time-conscious, and results-focused with demonstrated ability to break down problems into manageable segments
  • Resilience: Capacity to bounce back from challenges and adjust course
