About the Position

We are looking for a talented and versatile Technical Communications Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will serve as the bridge between our senior technical experts and our audiences, translating complex scientific and analytical content into clear, compelling, and accessible communications. You will contribute to a broad range of outputs, from in-depth technical documents to marketing and digital content, and will play a key role in shaping the messaging frameworks that guide how our services are positioned and communicated. All content you produce will adhere to and champion our brand guidelines, ensuring a consistent, professional, and recognisable voice and identity across every touchpoint, internally and externally.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Author and maintain technical notes and method descriptions in collaboration with senior technical teams, ensuring all content is accurate, clearly written, and appropriately tailored to the target audience.

  • Review and edit technical documents, reports, and presentations prepared by subject matter experts, ensuring brand consistency throughout.

  • Develop and maintain core messaging frameworks for services and products, providing clear, consistent direction on how they should be positioned, described, and communicated across all channels.

  • Translate marketing strategies into practical messaging guides and toolkits that reflect both strategic priorities and brand standards, enabling consistent and confident communication across teams.

  • Regularly review and refresh messaging to reflect new services, market developments, or evolving strategic priorities.

  • Create and maintain website content, keeping pages accurate, engaging, and fully aligned with approved messaging frameworks and brand guidelines.

  • Plan and support marketing campaigns, coordinating with the Marketing & Design Coordinator to deliver cohesive materials.

  • Write and publish LinkedIn posts and other social media content that showcases technical expertise and adheres to brand tone of voice, visual identity guidelines, and messaging standards.

  • Contribute to internal articles, newsletters, and announcements that keep teams informed and aligned, produced consistently within brand standards.

  • Develop messaging and copy for trade show booths and collateral ensuring all content is aligned with the current marketing strategies and campaign objectives.

  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Design Coordinator to develop compelling messaging and promotional materials for the annual Fee Schedule, ensuring content is accurate, on-brand, and published in a timely manner.

  • Support the Safety, Quality, and Social Committee teams by developing clear, engaging, and on-brand messaging for their internal campaigns, initiatives, and communications, ensuring consistent tone and effective reach across the organisation.

  • Develop and deliver internal training sessions, including onboarding teams to new messaging frameworks and brand guidelines, so all staff communicate about products and services clearly and consistently.

  • Act as a messaging and marketing resource for sales, business development, and other internal stakeholders who need clear, consistent, on-brand language to communicate our services confidently.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proven experience in technical writing within a scientific, analytical, engineering, or laboratory services environment.

  • Strong ability to interpret and simplify complex technical information without compromising accuracy.

  • Exceptional written English with the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences and formats, while always remaining on-brand.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop messaging frameworks, positioning documents, or communication guides.

  • Comfortable collaborating with subject matter experts and translating their knowledge into polished, publication-ready, brand-aligned content.

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office.

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital marketing tools (e.g., Hootsuite, or similar).

  • Detail-oriented with strong organisational and time management skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma, or equivalent work experience, in Science Communication, Technical Communications, Geology, Geochemistry, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.

  • 1–3 years of experience in technical communications, marketing content, or a related role within a scientific or technical environment.

Physical Demands

  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks such as keyboarding.

  • Ability to use and view a computer screen for up to 8 hours per day.

  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities.

Our Benefits Include

  • An estimated annual salary of $70,000 to $80,000 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
