Job Description

AECOM Buildings + Places Architectural business is seeking a Structural Engineering Manager  to join our team. This position is based out of our Burnaby, BC office on a hybrid work schedule. 

AECOM Buildings + Places Canada (B+P Canada) is a vibrant and growing fully integrated team spanning architecture, all the building’s engineering disciplines, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, economics and asset management for design and infrastructure projects. Projects may include, although not limited to: Transit and Municipal, Commercial, and Institutional projects, Justice, Education and Government.

Job Summary: 

We are looking for someone ready to take on the challenge of building our structural engineering team! This is your opportunity to show off your leadership abilities and leave a lasting impact. With a strong backlog on some of the biggest projects in the Lower Mainland, we are looking for our structural team anchor who has a desire to lead and grow a team, while demonstrating technical excellence in solving our community's biggest infrastructural challenges. The Structural Manager will be someone who is willing to come to the Burnaby office at least 2 - 3 times a week as they mentor and grow their team, while working with their peers across the Region and with the other Discipline Managers in the Burnaby office. 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Performs various management, leadership, and people accountability responsibilities for a specific technical group or department. 
  • Has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating technical assignments. 
  • Generally requires multi-disciplinary knowledge of engineering. 
  • Plans and develops engineering tasks concerned with unique or controversial problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation and development of novel concepts and approaches.
  • Maintains liaison with units within the organization and individuals inside and outside of the organization. 
  • Responsible for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field. Work at this level usually requires extensive progressive experience. 
  • Works under minimal supervision. Supervision received is essentially administrative with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits. 
  • Manages group of engineers and/or technicians, coordinating activities of the unit.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • University Degree in Structural Engineering + a minimum of 8 (eight) years of relevant experience in structural engineering design.
  • EGBC Professional Engineering designation required.

Preferred Requirements: 

  • BC Struct.Eng. designation is highly desirable.
  • Additional years of experience an asset.
  • Supervisory/Lead/Management experience a strong asset.
