Senior Staff Software Engineer, Home Loans
This role requires physical presence in Seattle, WA, or Helena, MT. This is not open to a remote option.
At SoFi, we are redefining the future of finance. As a Senior Staff Frontend Engineer on the Home Loans team, you’ll be instrumental in architecting and developing a scalable frontend platform that enables seamless lending experiences. You will define best practices for frontend architecture, component and configuration-driven development and work closely with backend teams to ensure a cohesive, high-performance system.
We are looking for an experienced technical leader who thrives in Next.js, React, and TypeScript, has a deep understanding of frontend performance optimization, user experience, and state management, and can drive the adoption of composable architectures across teams.
If you are passionate about building modular, reusable UI components and collaborating with backend teams on API design and system architecture, we’d love to hear from you!
What You’ll Do:
- Architect and build a scalable frontend platform using Next.js, React, and TypeScript, ensuring composable, reusable components for our lending ecosystem.
- Lead technical initiatives, driving improvements in frontend architecture, developer experience, and system scalability.
- Mentor and guide frontend engineers across teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, design documentation and review, and continuous learning.
What You’ll Need:
- 10+ years of experience building front-end applications with modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks.
- Expertise in Next.js and React, including advanced knowledge of client-side rendering (CSR), server-side rendering (SSR), static site generation (SSG), and hybrid rendering strategies.
- Strong understanding of composable architectures, including component-driven UI design, reusable frontend modules, and frontend design patterns such as monorepos and microfrontends.
- Experience with mobile WebView integration to support homogeneous, cross-platform UX.
- Experience with state management strategies, such as Zustand, Redux Toolkit, Recoil, or React Query, ensuring efficient data synchronization with backend services.
- Strong emphasis on testing strategies, including unit tests, integration tests, and E2E testing frameworks like Cypress or Playwright.
- Deep knowledge of frontend performance optimization, including Lighthouse scores, Core Web Vitals, lazyloading, caching, and strategies for minimizing render blocking and delivering high-quality user experiences.
- Experience with frontend best practices, including design system integration and accessibility (a11y).
- Hands-on experience integrating with backend services, including GraphQL, REST APIs, WebSockets, and event-driven architectures.
- Proficiency in frontend build systems and DevOps tooling, including Webpack, Vite, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized deployments with Docker.
- Proven ability to lead technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and drive architectural decisions across teams.
Nice to Have:
- Experience working with backend technologies, including Node.js, Kotlin, or Java, for better cross-functional collaboration.
- Familiarity with infrastructure and DevOps practices, such as NGINX, Kubernetes, Terraform, and AWS (Lambda, S3, CloudFront, etc.).
- Background in financial services or fintech, particularly lending platforms and credit decisioning workflows.
- Ability to showcase code samples from GitHub or similar.
