An overview of this role
As our Senior People Communications & Engagement Strategist, you’ll craft engaging stories and foster connection across our growing, global company. Working alongside our Senior People Communications & Engagement Manager, you'll be a creative force behind internal communication campaigns that don't just inform our team members, but truly engage them. Whether you're spotlighting team member stories, celebrating company wins, or helping to translate complex programs into compelling narratives, you'll help our people feel genuinely connected to GitLab, and each other.
This role is part of our People Communications & Engagement team that is focused on informing, and engaging GitLab team members through proactive, transparent messaging that support various People programs and company-wide initiatives across our teams and divisions. Our team plays an important role in enhancing the team member experience—from planning company events that align our people with strategy and goals, to spotlighting notable work across our channels, to helping stakeholders develop thoughtful communication strategies and supporting outreach plans.

In this role you will help champion the successful adoption and optimization of our new internal communications hub (powered by Simpplr), while creating and curating engaging content (news, team member stories, company updates, events, and resources) that aims to build community and connection.
You will proactively help educate, support, and empower internal stakeholders, site owners/content managers, and functional leaders to leverage our new internal communications hub for their announcements, team news, storytelling, initiatives, events, and resource sharing.
What You’ll Do
- Platform Management: Partner with Senior Manager, People Communications on implementation, optimization, and user adoption of our internal communication platform; further develop governance frameworks, best practices, and contribute to our learning and enablement resources that aim to empower site owners/content managers to leverage the platform for their communications, events, and resource sharing
- Content Marketing and Strategy: Create compelling internal content including announcements, thought leadership pieces, team member spotlights, and campaign materials that drive engagement
- Community Building: Foster vibrant internal communities across the Loop (powered by Simpplr) through strategic programming, events, and initiatives that encourage participation and connection
- Team Member Engagement: Design and execute multi-channel engagement campaigns supporting company initiatives, culture building, and change management
- Analytics & Optimization: Monitor platform metrics, and content engagement data to continuously improve communication effectiveness
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with People team, leadership, and functional leaders to amplify key messages and ensure consistent internal communications
What you will bring:
- 3-5 years experience in internal communications, employee engagement, corporate communications or related fields/areas, preferably human resources, marketing, program management, or community management
- Proven experience with intranets and employee engagement platforms (Simpplr strongly preferred) or similar platforms
- Experience with developing and executing integrated content marketing campaigns across multiple channels and formats (internal communication platforms - Slack, intranet, or similar, e-mail/e-newsletters, video, and presentations) with demonstrated excellence in crafting compelling messaging that drives team member engagement.
- Experience developing and executing employee engagement campaigns
- Ability to analyze data and measure communication campaigns and e-newsletter effectiveness
- Excellent project management and stakeholder collaboration skills
- Proven track record in helping to develop and execute effective internal communication strategies and initiatives.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create engaging content for various communication channels.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with team members at all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Internal Communications, People/HR, Marketing or related field
- Experience managing and configuring intranet or employee experience platforms (e.g., Simpplr, SharePoint, LumApps or similar), including analytics, permissions, and integrations.
- Experience in change management or platform adoption initiatives a plus
- Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and achieve goals through teamwork and collaboration.
- Familiarity with tools like Canva a plus

The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of listed locations only. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data. See more information on our benefits and equity. Sales roles are also eligible for incentive pay targeted at up to 100% of the offered base salary.
