ABOUT THE ROLE

As Quality & Compliance Manager, you'll lead Herschel’s global approach to product quality and compliance, ensuring integrity from early development through production and into market. Reporting to the VP of Product Sourcing, this role is responsible for upholding the highest standards across safety, durability and regulatory requirements, while enabling the speed and innovation our product teams are known for.

With the autonomy to evolve global testing protocols, manage key third-party partnerships, and oversee corporate social responsibility (CSR), you’ll play a critical cross-functional role in building scalable systems, mitigating risk, and protecting the reputation of the brand across all categories.

We value in-person collaboration and connection, so our teams come together in our Vancouver HQ office Monday - Thursday, with the flexibility to work from home on Fridays unless there’s a need to be hands-on with product. 

A DAY IN THE LIFE 

Working closely with Product Design, Product Development, Sourcing, and external manufacturing teams, the Quality & Compliance Manager will be responsible for the following:

  • Create and implement company standards (RSL, QA/QC, Performance and Labelling) for each product category based on industry best practices and global regulations.
  • Monitor ever-changing international regulations and manage the development and implementation of process changes to meet new legislation and company standards.
  • Lead comprehensive product testing programs, including chemical, physical, and durability assessments across all categories and manage 3rd party labs & services.
  • Partner with manufacturing partners in Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, and China to build internal capability in quality systems and compliance awareness.
  • Analyze returns, claims, and failure data to identify trends and implement proactive corrective action plans with factories.
  • Manage 3rd party audits & 3rd party inspection services to monitor social compliance audits, product quality and in-line production quality control.
  • Update cross-functional teams on Herschel’s partnerships non-compliance, proactively providing solutions and escalating issues to senior management as required.
  • Build and manage scalable digital systems for tracking compliance, testing, and restricted substances (RSL/MRSL) and sustainability.
  • Act as an internal consultant for Sourcing, Product Management, and Development to ensure company requirements are properly implemented through testing plans.
  • Monitor & maintain EPR regulatory compliance, & support sustainability measures and CSR initiatives in the company.
DELIVERABLES & KPIs
  • Maintain compliance with global safety and chemical standards (CPSIA, REACH, Prop 65, etc.) across all markets.
  • Achievement of reduction targets for factory failure rates and consumer returns through successful corrective action plans.
  • Successful implementation of dashboards and KPIs to provide real-time visibility into vendor and product performance.
  • Ensure 100% visibility into factory social compliance audit status for the global supply chain.
ABOUT YOU
  • Significant experience in product quality, compliance and technical development within the fashion industry is essential
  • In-depth working knowledge of garment and textile manufacturing processes, factory evaluation techniques, and vendor compliance requirements.
  • Deep knowledge of global compliance standards, including CPSIA, REACH, Prop 65, GPSR, and GB standards.
  • A degree or diploma in Quality Management, or a related technical field, is an asset.
  • In-depth working knowledge of garment and textile manufacturing processes, factory evaluation techniques, and vendor compliance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of soft-goods construction, physical testing methodologies, and restricted substances (RSL/MRSL).
  • Proven experience in implementing and scaling quality and compliance systems (PLM experience preferred).
  • Strong ability to develop relationships with cross-functional partners and communicate clearly across time zones and cultures.
  • Analytical mindset with experience using data to drive decisions and process improvements.
  • Experience with sustainability compliance (EPR, packaging regulations, PFAS) is a significant asset.
  • Familiarity with licensed product requirements (e.g., brand standards for partners like Apple or LEGO).

The annual salary for this role falls within the range of $100,000 - $112,000 depending on level of experience.
