Position Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Project Manager to join our team in British Columbia. This role is central to our specialized environmental services division, focusing on large-scale contaminated site management, soil remediation, and complex hazardous waste disposal projects.

You will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of environmental projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, and in strict accordance with BC’s rigorous environmental and hazardous waste regulations.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project Oversight: Manage the full lifecycle of environmental projects, including contaminated site excavation, soil treatment, and hazardous waste disposal.

  • Strategic Planning: Develop comprehensive project plans, including budget forecasting, resource allocation, and timeline management.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Act as the internal Subject Matter Expert on the BC Environmental Management Act (EMA), the Contaminated Sites Regulation (CSR), and the Hazardous Waste Regulation (HWR).

  • Technical Reporting: Oversee the preparation and submission of Soil Relocation Notifications, Site Disclosure Statements, and Summary of Site Condition forms.

  • Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, environmental consultants, and regulatory bodies (ENV).

  • Waste Logistics: Coordinate the transport and disposal of contaminated materials to approved GFL facilities or third-party sites, ensuring all manifesting and transport requirements meet HWR standards.

  • Health & Safety: Maintain GFL’s industry-leading safety standards, ensuring all field staff and subcontractors adhere to site-specific safety plans and local protocols.

  • Other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in the BC environmental industry, with specific focus on soil remediation and hazardous waste management.

  • Extensive, up-to-date knowledge of BC’s CSR and Hazardous Waste Regulations. You must be familiar with the latest amendments to Protocol 19 (Soil Relocation) and Protocol 12 (Site Risk Classification).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or a related field.

  • Deep understanding of BC soil classifications, waste discharge authorizations, and remediation technologies.

  • Proven track record of managing projects exceeding $1M in scope. PMP designation or professional status (P.Eng., P.Geo., R.P.Bio., or P.Ag.) is considered a strong asset.

  • Construction or infrastructure experience is considered a strong asset.

  • Exceptional negotiation skills, with the ability to navigate complex regulatory hurdles and provide clear guidance to clients.

Why Join GFL?

  • Work for one of the fastest-growing environmental firms in North America.

  • Take the lead on projects that directly improve the local BC environment.

  • Competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package, and RRSP matching.

  • A fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where "Green For Life" is more than just a slogan.
