The right candidate combines deep domain knowledge in financial and operational planning with a passion for building intelligent, modern software. You will be responsible for gathering requirements, translating them into actionable stories, and delivering high-quality products to the enterprise performance management market. If you want to move fast, shape the future of AI-forward planning software, and make a real impact—this is the role for you.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the product roadmap for Planful’s dynamic planning capabilities and set engineering priorities accordingly.
  • Write and share clear functional specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria with development, QA, and UX teams.
  • Design and champion intuitive new planning functionality in close partnership with engineering and UX teams, ensuring an exceptional user experience for finance and operations users.
  • Evangelize product vision, planning strategy, and AI capabilities to customers, partners, prospects, and internal stakeholders including Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success.
  • Integrate AI capabilities into the planning product—including predictive analytics, intelligent scenario modeling, anomaly detection, and natural language interfaces—to deliver an AI-forward user experience.
  • Leverage AI tools and techniques personally to accelerate research, synthesis, prototyping, and requirements development workflows.
  • Analyze the competitive landscape for planning and FP&A solutions and define differentiated requirements that advance Planful’s market position.
  • Evaluate product performance and feature utility with internal stakeholders (support, services, sales) and external stakeholders (customers, partners, analysts).
  • Lead research and discovery in areas of innovation, including AI-driven planning automation, rolling forecasts, scenario planning, and workforce/operational planning.
  • Define and refine the data model and calculation layer requirements to support flexible, multi-dimensional planning across finance and operations.
  • Partner with the broader product team to ensure coherent integration between planning, reporting, consolidation, and analytics capabilities within the Planful platform.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of experience as a Product Manager, Program Manager, or consultant with enterprise software, preferably in FP&A, CPM, EPM, or related planning and analytics domains.
  • Deep domain knowledge in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and operational planning—ideally with hands-on experience as a user, implementation consultant, or PM of planning software.
  • Demonstrated experience incorporating or working alongside AI/ML capabilities in a product context, including familiarity with LLMs, predictive modeling, or AI-assisted workflows.
  • Actively uses AI tools (e.g., generative AI, co-pilots, automated analysis) to improve personal productivity and bring innovative ideas to product development.
  • Strong understanding of driver-based and continuous planning methodologies, rolling forecasts, scenario and sensitivity analysis, and workforce/headcount planning.
  • Experience defining user interface concepts for complex business applications, including wireframes, mockups, and final UX decision-making.
  • Understanding of EPM concepts including financial analytics and visualization, data integration, multi-dimensional modeling, and financial reporting.
  • Proven ability to define and communicate product requirements to a broad audience—engineers, QA, marketing, senior management, customers, and analysts—through both verbal and written communication.
  • Proficiency with modern product management tools: Atlassian Jira, Claude, Google Docs, Figma, Pendo or similar.
  • Experience with SaaS development models, cloud computing, and Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Intelligence, Computer Science, or related field. Graduate degree is a plus.
  • Independent thinker and self-starter who operates with urgency and can research, synthesize, and present findings with minimal direction.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including comfort presenting to large audiences in person or over video, and ability to craft clear requirements and specification documents.
  • Experience working with or presenting to U.S. based customers and stakeholders.
  • Experience in a lead role mentoring or managing team members is a plus.
