The Director of Operations is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of manufacturing operations within the electronics production environment. This role ensures efficient production processes, high-quality output, cost effectiveness, and continuous improvement across manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and operational excellence functions. The Operations Director partners closely with senior leadership to align operational execution with business objectives, driving customer satisfaction, profitability, and growth.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to
Strategic Operations Leadership
Define and execute the long-term operations strategy to support business growth, scalability, and customer satisfaction.
Align manufacturing capabilities with market demands, emerging technologies, and corporate objectives.
Lead operational readiness for new product introductions (NPI), ensuring manufacturability and smooth ramp-up.
Manufacturing Excellence
Oversee production performance at a macro level, setting operational targets for efficiency, yield, and throughput across multiple sites or business units.
Champion lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Industry 4.0 initiatives to drive productivity, automation, and innovation.
Establish governance processes and performance dashboards to track and improve operational KPIs.
Supply Chain & Global Operations
Partner with engineering, supply chain, and product management to support alignment of supply chain strategy with product lifecycle needs.
Quality, Compliance & Risk Management
Anticipate and mitigate operational risks, including compliance risks, capacity constraints, etc.
Establish a culture of continuous quality improvement and accountability across all operational functions.
Ensure compliance with industry regulations, certifications (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 13485, IATF 16949), and environmental health & safety standards.
People & Organizational Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing operations team, which includes frontline managers and individual contributors
Set vision, direction, and succession planning for operational talent development.
Promote a culture of safety, innovation, and employee engagement throughout the organization.
Financial & Business Impact
Own the operational budget, capital expenditures, and financial performance of manufacturing operations.
Drive efficiency, productivity, and profitability through operational excellence.
Partner with executive leadership on business planning, forecasting, and strategic initiatives, aligning operational objectives, key results, and KPIs to broader business unit and corporate goals
Qualifications
Education & Credentials
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree (MBA or equivalent) strongly preferred.
Professional certifications in Lean, Six Sigma, or Operations/Quality Management considered an asset.
Experience
10+ years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing operations, with relevant experience in electronics manufacturing or a closely related high-tech industry.
Proven track record of leading operations at scale — multi-site, global, or high-volume environments.
Demonstrated success in implementing operational strategies that improve efficiency, quality, and financial performance.
Experience overseeing supply chain strategy, vendor management, and global sourcing within electronics manufacturing.
Strong background in regulatory compliance and quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 13485, IATF 16949, IPC standards) an asset.
Leadership & Business Acumen
Executive-level presence with the ability to influence, align, and collaborate across C-suite and board-level stakeholders.
Strategic thinker with the ability to align production operations with corporate objectives.
Strong financial and operational acumen, with experience managing budgets, capital projects, and cost-reduction initiatives.
Ability to lead organizational transformation, drive cultural change, and foster innovation.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams (engineering, supply chain, quality, and program management).
Proven ability to build and develop high-performing leadership teams.
Technical & Strategic Skills
Deep understanding of electronics manufacturing processes (SMT, THT, PCB assembly, box build, test, etc.) and emerging trends
Strong grasp of operational metrics, KPI dashboards, and governance models.
Ability to balance short-term execution with long-term strategic planning.
