Manager, Planning Services Purpose
The People Manager at Gordian is a strategic leader who ensures their team is aligned with the company's vision, fosters a high-performance culture, and drives efficiency to contribute to revenue growth. This role is pivotal in managing team dynamics, providing feedback, and enhancing team development through continuous improvement practices. The Manager is equally responsible for meeting revenue goals of the department and Gordian. Reports to the Director of their region or team.
Location: Remote, Canada – near major airport
This position works remotely, with up to 30% travel required. Travel includes company and departmental meetings, site visits for building assessments, interviews with key facilities personnel, and executive presentations to client leadership. For this reason, People Managers should live in convenient proximity to a major airport.
Primary Responsibilities
Contribute to the Success of the Team
- Partners with Regional and Department Leadership to ensure a unified approach to problem solving and department goals.
- Allocates project work to align employee strengths, interests, goals, growth opportunities, and workloads.
- Coaches core competencies and skill development, for employees to apply in their day-to-day work.
- Supports project teams to have direct and effective communication.
- Leverage enterprise business tools to drive organizational improvements.
- Leads initiatives to achieve team and company goals.
- Works with the Regional Leaders to shape the team environment, in which people are fulfilled and growing towards maximum potential.
- Celebrates successes and acknowledges accomplishments of the team.
- Participates in department recruiting and hiring efforts.
Establish & Guide Professional Development Plans
- Works with employees to align personal values, professional goals, position responsibilities, and project opportunities into a professional development plan.
- Synthesizes and communicates feedback to employees based on direct interactions and information gathered from project teams.
- Identifies growth opportunities and provides coaching to overcome challenges proactively.
- Coaches and provides guidance on short, medium and long-term career direction.
- Identifies when HR support is needed and collaborates effectively.
- Effectively manages to achieve positive team engagement and fulfillment.
Support Business Development for New and Existing Clients:
- Support sales and marketing as subject matter expert for Planning Service’s solutions.
- Identifies and supports cross-sell and upsell opportunities of all Gordian solutions and collaborates with regional sales account executives to develop further.
- Develops and sustains long-term relationship management strategies for clients in collaboration with Regional Leader or Regional Sales rep as needed; collaborates with Project Managers in support of client relationship management; partners with Resource Leaders to achieve project execution and overcome barriers to customer delivery.
- Delivers thought leadership to the industry.
- Participates in the improvement of our products, in response to industry needs and customer feedback.
- Develops strategies to close gaps between forecast and actuals by way of shifting work and resources when possible
Drive Progress with Members and Cultivate Client Relationships
- Increases effectiveness of direct reports through data and deliverable support, reviewing work to ensure data accuracy and quality as needed.
- Leads initiatives, supports ownership of workloads, and holds team members accountable to ensure progression of client work for the entire team.
Qualifications
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- 3+ years people management experience
- Experience and solid understanding of Facilities Condition Assessment Process and Facilities Capital Planning
- Strong communication and public speaking skills
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills/ability to manage multiple direct reports/projects simultaneously
- The ability to travel up to 30%
- Physical requirements for this role include the ability to walk around a campus environment for 6-8 hours per day, as well as the ability to ascend/descend a ladder and/or work in outdoor weather conditions as many as several times a month
