Position Scope

The Lead Process Engineer will apply their extensive engineering expertise to support the development and execution of the applied R&D program of the Innovation Centre (CEIC) plant. The responsibilities will be tailored to the facility’s needs, but will include contributing to the development the plant R&D roadmap, analyzing plant data to assess system performance and test outcomes, preparing technical reports developing and implementing engineering solutions to improve performance and reliability. Additionally, the Lead Process Engineer will mentor junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
 

This position is a full-time, 40hrs/week position.  This position is eligible for the 9/80 work schedule to offer a flexible work schedule. 

This role is based in Squamish, BC.


Health Safety and Environment 

  • Demonstrate a positive safety culture.
  • Identify, report, and resolve unsafe conditions, processes, or actions within the workplace.
  • Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy.
  • Leverage the training program to establish safety as a core value in all activities.

Responsibilities
Data Analysis and Report Generation:

  • Collaborate with external and internal stakeholders to provide recommendations for plant testing program that align with the strategic objectives of the facility.
  • Review plant data and analyze system performance against test campaign objectives.
  • Document results, analysis and interpretation of plant performance into technical reports, presentations and other communication methods such as dashboards and executive summaries. Review results and reports generated at the Innovation Center to ensure an appropriate level of rigor in any results and conclusions drawn.

Mentorship and Leadership:

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and production team.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team.
  • Manage direct reports as needed to support meeting organizational objectives.
Process Troubleshooting and Continuous Improvement:
  • Using technical knowledge and experience, support the engineering, production and maintenance teams in troubleshooting and resolving process-related issues.
  • Lead event investigations and generate effective, implementable actions to minimize future process deviations.
  • Apply technical knowledge to develop and implement process improvements.

Engineering Work:

  • Identify and develop needed improvements to plant systems in order to achieve our technical objectives.
  • Design and/or work with engineering support resources to generate designs for plant modifications and optimization projects.
  • Work with Production and Maintenance teams to implement plant modifications and
  • Create and/or authorize engineering documents where required within scope of practice to support (P&IDs, PFDs, GAs)
  • Generate control narratives to allow the implementation of process control objectives by the controls team.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, production, procurement, maintenance and quality control.
  • Collaborate to drive process improvements and support new process improvements.

Education and Experience

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or PhD considered an asset, but not required.
  • Registered PEng at EGBC, or eligibility to register for PEng at EGBC.
Experience:
  • 20 years of experience in process engineering within the chemical industry
  • Experience working in an R&D environment, with specific focus on pilot plant and commercial scales.
  • Demonstrated competence analyzing complex plant data and deriving actionable insights. 
  • Experience in leading teams.
  • Competent in accessing and utilizing process database tools (PI, SEEQ) to evaluate system performance.
  • In-depth understanding of chemical plant operations, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
    • Engineering best practice around in plant changes.
    • Management of change (MOC) processes.
    • Process hazards analyses, HAZOPs, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite, including advanced functions, data analysis, and report generation

Key Competencies:
  • Strong communication and mentorship skills.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in a chemical plant environment, including exposure to various chemicals and operating conditions.
  • Explorer mindset. Ability to work in an innovative environment.
  • May require occasional travel to other plant locations or industry conferences.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, and lifting as required.


Compensation and Benefits
Carbon Engineering offers a competitive compensation package including extended health benefits. Base Salary for a Senior level role is $123,250 to $160,000 with additional bonus pay. Carbon Engineering also provides benefits and paid time off.
