Job Responsibilities:

JOB SUMMARY:

Using engineering and continuous improvement techniques, establishes optimum manufacturing cell configuration (creation of most efficient manufacturing cell from material inflow, through production, to outflow).  Leads process of systemization and standardization of product routings, process descriptions, material flow/usage and throughput rates within the vision of Lean Manufacturing.  Provides input for facility planning, plant layouts, and performs capacity studies to determine if plants are capable of filling customer orders and develops detailed plans/layouts to maximize process efficiencies and minimize space costs.  Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.  May provide work direction and/or supervision to other staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties will be performed at all levels within the progression.  At level I, work is primarily routine and focused on small projects and plant layout work for existing facilities.  Independently evaluates, selects, and applies established and well-defined engineering techniques and procedures based on guidance provided directly by person or in the form of regulations.  Decisions involve limited risk to the organization.  Primarily involves entry through intermediate level work.  At level II, work is moderately complex and difficult in character and requires project management skills.  Functioning as a highly competent engineer, work requires independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard company procedures and translation of technical guidance from higher level personnel into solutions applicable to the particular assignment.  Decisions involve moderate risk to the organization although results may have a long-lasting impact.  Primarily involves intermediate through advanced level work, moving toward complete technical competency and mastery of the field.  At level III, work requires independent problem solving and decision making with general direction given on project objectives and broad guidance from corporate strategy and goals.  Work is complex, difficult in character and requires strong technical and regulatory knowledge in addition to program/project management skills.  Functioning with full competency and mastery of work area, exercises considerable latitude in determining specific project objectives and approaches to assignment.  Decisions often involve substantial risk to the organization with potential for long-lasting results.  Primarily involves senior/advanced level work.  Responsible for all aspects of assigned programs/projects and supervises and/or provides work direction to other staff.  Elevation to this level will only occur on a selective case-by-case basis.

1. Using engineering and continuous improvement techniques, establishes optimum manufacturing cell configuration (creation of most efficient manufacturing cell from material inflow, through production, to outflow).  Determines product flow by evaluating resource requirements, material flow, equipment rates, and ergonomic considerations.  Establishes most efficient machine rates by determining most efficient, ergonomically correct means of establishing optimum manufacturing cell configuration.
2. Leads process of systemization and standardization of product routings, process descriptions, material flow/usage and throughput rates within the vision of Lean Manufacturing.  Maintains manufacturing database to track and ensure accurate process descriptions, routings, and throughput rates and raw material usage documentation.
3. Provides input for facility planning, plant layouts, and performs capacity studies to determine if plants are capable of filling customer orders in accordance with five-year business plan.  Develops detailed plans and layouts so that manufacturing operations can maximize process efficiencies and minimize space costs.

4. Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.  Monitors and controls objectives and costs of assigned project and establishes program time lines.  May provide work direction and/or supervision to other staff.
