Compensation Range$6,143.67 - $8,830.25 CAD Monthly

Job Description Summary

The FMIS Business Analyst is responsible for the analysis, optimization, implementation, governance and ongoing enhancement of food management information systems supporting UBC Food Services operations. The position serves as the primary business systems resource and works with operational leaders, Procurement, Culinary, Finance, IT and software vendors to evaluate business needs, assess system performance, identify opportunities for improvement and implement solutions that support operational efficiency, data integrity and informed decision-making.


Organizational Status

Reports to the Associate Director, Finance, UBC Food Services. Works collaboratively with Culinary Services, Procurement, Finance, IT, operational managers and external vendors. Acts as the departmental subject matter expert for food management information systems.


Work Performed

Business Analysis & System Optimization

  • Conducts business needs assessments and evaluates operational workflows and system functionality.
  • Analyzes operational, inventory, purchasing and financial data to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Assesses system capabilities against business requirements and develops recommendations for enhancements and process improvements.
  • Leads evaluation and continuous improvement of recipe management, inventory control, purchasing and reporting processes.
  • Develops reports, metrics and analytical tools to support operational decision-making.

Stakeholder Consultation & Business Solutions

  • Serves as the primary business systems advisor for food management applications.
  • Consults with stakeholders to identify requirements, evaluate options and develop business solutions.
  • Provides recommendations regarding system functionality, reporting requirements, workflow design and data management practices.
  • Liaises with software vendors regarding enhancements, issue resolution and future requirements.

System Governance, Configuration & Implementation

  • Leads configuration, optimization and governance of food management information systems.
  • Coordinates system enhancements, upgrades and implementation activities.
  • Conducts impact assessments, implementation planning and user acceptance testing.
  • Develops and maintains system standards, business rules and data governance practices.

Training, Change Management & User Support

  • Develops training materials, documentation and best-practice resources.
  • Delivers training sessions, workshops and presentations.
  • Supports organizational change initiatives associated with system enhancements and process improvements.
  • Provides advanced user support and promotes standardized business practices.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned to support the food information management system.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Exercises judgment in assessing business requirements, evaluating system functionality, prioritizing enhancements, recommending process improvements and implementing system changes. Errors may result in operational disruption, reporting inaccuracies, financial loss, data integrity issues and reduced confidence in business systems.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline with minimum of two years experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one's own.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with business systems analysis, enterprise software, operational systems, requirements gathering, stakeholder consultation, software implementation, data analysis and training delivery. Experience supporting food service, hospitality, procurement, inventory or supply-chain systems is an asset.
