What We Need

Have experience building tools, workflows, and pipeline optimizations that make the creative work of game development even more fun than it already is?

Based in Burnaby, Canada, 2K Sports Lab, is seeking an Expert Technical Artist to join our team. This role acts as the liaison between the sophisticated work performed by the designers, programmers, and artists who work on a wide variety of features for our new game. This role will report directly to the Technical Art Director of the studio.

What You’ll Do

• Research, build, and develop new technologies and art workflows while maintaining existing processes. This includes environments, props, characters, shaders, lighting, and rigs.

• Collaborate with Art and Engineering to drive research, workflows, and technologies for improved deformations, animation fidelity, and streamlined creation process

• Troubleshoot technical issues related to geometry, character rigs, animation, and simulation.

• Become a proficient user and contributor of the existing toolset and workflow, making any necessary improvements to enhance the capabilities

• Coach, mentor and help team members grow

What Will Make You A Great Fit

• Minimum of 8-10+ years experience and advanced knowledge as a technical artist

• Proficient in Maya and Python with significant experience writing tools (Python, PySide/PyQt, C#/C++/Maya API)

• Experience with Lighting, Materials and Shaders as applied to Physically Based Rendering.

• Experience researching, piloting and rolling out new techniques

• Extensive experience with Unreal Engine 4 and/or 5

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Beneficial Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Graphic Arts, Art or a related field, or equivalent industry experience

• High level Blueprint scripting experience in Unreal Engine 4 or 5

• Understanding of modern rendering techniques and high-level shading languages

• Experience profiling CPU and GPU performance

• Knowledge of Houdini or other similar software

• Experience on current and next-gen consoles

The pay range for this position in British Columbia at the start of employment is expected to be between $133,900 and $198,160 per Year. However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards and eligibility to participate in our 401(K) plan and Employee Stock Purchase Program. Regular, full-time employees are also eligible for a range of benefits at the Company, including: medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance coverage; 14 paid holidays per calendar year; paid vacation time per calendar year (ranging from 15 to 25 days) or eligibility to participate in the Company’s discretionary time off program; up to 10 paid sick days per calendar year; paid parental and compassionate leave; wellbeing programs for mental health and other wellness support; family planning support through Maven; commuter benefits; and reimbursements for fitness-related expenses.
