As Design Developer 1, you are responsible for supporting design by building and offering product solutions in alignment with the original intent and vision of the product design. You are a passionate builder of product and bring your curiosity to support finding creative solutions for a better way to innovate product. In close collaboration with cross functional teams, you support concept development from ideation through to seasonal development. You Do Right through responsible and sustainable design.

The Women’s Hike design team works together on a wide variety of product types covering knitwear, insulated midlayers, gore hardshells, softshell and windshell garments to support the Hike category.  We are builders, problem solvers and passionate outdoor enthusiasts.  Fueled by curiosity, we take an immersive approach to identifying future needs then build test and validate products that solve for real functional challenges. We are innovative problem solvers with a focus on collaborative teamwork.

If you were in the Design Developer 1 role now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:

  • You support Product Design by developing unique and resolved solutions through patterning and sewing concept prototypes, ensuring alignment with Arc’teryx design philosophies, the original intent and vision for the product
  • You support and/or contribute to Design by sewing resolved garments, along with the supporting documentation to ensure scalable construction in a bulk production environment
  • In collaboration with Designers, Pattern Makers and Product Developers, you support and/or contribute to creation, documentation and communication of new concepts, construction processes and techniques that meet Arc’teryx product ideals
  • You contribute to and/or build partial or complete concept prototypes to allow solutions to be tested, reviewed, and validated
  • You support Design in collaboration with Pattern Makers and Product Developers on seasonal projects as needed
  • You test different materials to assess suitability for various construction techniques and end uses, documenting information and results throughout the process
  • You support Design Developers and Senior Design Developers with special projects as needed
  • You support and/or assist the Sample and Design teams and respond to problems as they arise
  • You are responsible to compile project scope, activities, and expenditures, of projects deemed eligible for submission to funding programs (SR&ED, IRAP, NRC, MITACS, and so forth)

Are you our next Design Developer 1?

  • You have 1+ years’ experience working in a technical design environment (ideally apparel)
  • You have a diploma or degree in Fashion Design or equivalent experience
  • You have previous pattern making experience, particularly CAD experience with Gerber
  • You have strong sewing, building, and pattern making skills
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Illustrator, with the ability to pick up new computer applications quickly
  • You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues, seeking the best (sometimes not the easiest) solutions with an unwavering commitment to do what is right
  • You remain highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity
  • You effectively balance autonomy and collaboration
  • You inspire breakthrough thinking and continuous improvement
  • Your passion for your work is paralleled by your passion for getting outside and living it
  • A strong knowledge of Arc’teryx products and interest/involvement in activities Arc’teryx makes products for

Compensation:

    The salary range for this role is CAD$71,000 - CAD$93,000
