THE OPPORTUNITY

Aritzia is growing, and our Engineering Enablement team is growing with it. This is a unique opportunity to be the talent anchor of our Platform organization, the team responsible for building the technical foundation that powers Aritzia. As Senior Engineering Manager/Engineering Manager, you will own the talent lifecycle for a team of high-performing engineers — from hiring and onboarding to performance calibration and career development. You will build high-trust teams, ensuring they are staffed, skilled, and psychologically safe, while driving organizational health and operational excellence. With the skills you gain in this role, the opportunities are endless — from a rewarding career in Technology to continued growth and development with Aritzia.

THE ROLE

As the Senior Engineering Manager/Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Lead and advance our people, through end-to-end people leadership across the 10 areas of management: Planning, Hiring, Onboarding, Evaluating, Developing, Engaging, Scheduling, Compensating, Transitioning, and Mitigating

  • Ensure the team can execute against priorities by maintaining operational health (capacity, quality, sustainable pace) and partnering with Tech Leads and TPMs on planning, sequencing, and delivery

  • Align individual performance and career planning with departmental goals, while partnering with TPMs on capacity planning to ensure the right headcount and skill mix are available to execute the roadmap

  • Cultivate a collaborative environment centered on open communication, fostering fearless feedback and blameless retrospectives to drive continuous improvement

  • Ensure teams are properly staffed and skilled to execute against product mandates, while coaching teams on DORA metrics (velocity & stability) to remove blockers and improve throughput

  • Partner with Tech Leads to apply DORA and SPACE to balance delivery and sustainability: improve throughput and stability (DORA) while monitoring engagement and cognitive load (SPACE), using staffing, scope, and operational improvements to prevent burnout

THE QUALIFICATIONS

The Senior Engineering Manager/Engineering Manager has:

  • A commitment to learn, apply, champion and enrich Aritzia's Values and Business and People Leadership principles

  • The skills to collaborate strategically with cross-functional partners in the pursuit of shared business outcomes

  • Excellent communication skills to translate technical concepts for stakeholders and make decisions under pressure

  • The ability to translate high-level strategy into clear expectations and accountability for the team (outcomes, responsibilities, growth plans), partnering with Tech Leads and TPMs on execution

  • A dedication to quality and investing in results and new business opportunities that add value

  • Proven skills, education, and/or applicable certifications in:

    • Demonstrated strength in people management applied specifically within a technical context

    • Experience using metrics (DORA/SPACE) to improve throughput and team health

    • Skilled in navigating interpersonal conflict, managing burnout risks, and fostering psychological safety to maintain high-trust squads in high-pressure environments

    • Sufficient understanding of modern software engineering (Cloud, DevOps, Data, AI) to evaluate performance, hire top-tier technical talent, and coach engineers

    • Proficiency in operational health reporting, utilizing data to identify capacity bottlenecks, resource allocation needs, and systemic friction

  • A sense of urgency and ability to prioritize important work

  • An understanding and a passion for the industry in which we operate
