The Role

We're looking for a relentless hunter who thrives on opening new doors, creating opportunities, and winning enterprise customers.

As a Business Development Director, you'll be responsible for generating and closing net-new business. You'll own the full sales cycle—from identifying high-value prospects and building executive relationships to negotiating complex agreements and closing multimillion-dollar deals.

This role is ideal for someone who is energized by building pipeline from the ground up, enjoys the challenge of long enterprise sales cycles, and consistently exceeds quota through persistence, creativity, and disciplined execution.

Your impact as a Business Development Director:

  • Drive net-new revenue by identifying, prospecting, qualifying, and closing enterprise customers across targeted industries.
  • Build and manage a robust pipeline through proactive outbound prospecting, networking, referrals, and strategic account targeting.
  • Own the entire sales cycle—from first outreach through contract negotiation and close.
  • Develop relationships with executive decision-makers, including C-suite stakeholders, and position solutions that solve complex business challenges.
  • Consistently exceed individual sales and pipeline generation targets.
  • Lead complex sales opportunities with contract values ranging from $3M–$5M.
  • Develop strategic account plans that identify buying centers, competitive positioning, and expansion opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Leadership to bring the right technical and executive resources into the sales process.
  • Maintain accurate pipeline forecasting and CRM hygiene using HubSpot or a comparable CRM.
  • Stay informed on market trends, customer challenges, and competitive activity to strengthen sales strategies and messaging.

Why you’re a great fit for Portable Electric’s Business Development (Sales) Team:

  • You're a true hunter. Prospecting, opening new doors, and winning new logos is what motivates you.
  • You enjoy building relationships from scratch and aren't afraid of cold outreach or pursuing difficult opportunities.
  • You're highly competitive and motivated by ambitious revenue targets.
  • You have a proven ability to create opportunities—not just work inbound leads.
  • You thrive in long, complex enterprise sales cycles and know how to keep momentum through multiple stakeholders.
  • You can communicate value to both business and technical audiences.
  • You're resourceful, resilient, and don't wait for opportunities—you create them.
  • You love the thrill of closing deals and seeing your efforts directly impact company growth.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of enterprise Business Development or Account Executive experience focused primarily on net-new business acquisition.
  • Demonstrated history of consistently exceeding quota in a B2B technology or hardware company.
  • Proven success sourcing and closing new enterprise customers through outbound prospecting.
  • Experience managing complex enterprise sales cycles and closing deals valued between $3M–$5M.
  • Strong executive presence with experience selling to C-level and senior decision-makers.
  • Experience developing and executing strategic prospecting and territory plans.
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, and consultative selling skills.
  • Experience using HubSpot or another CRM to manage pipeline and forecast accurately.
  • Technical aptitude and the ability to engage technical stakeholders while knowing when to leverage internal subject matter experts.
  • Highly self-motivated, disciplined, and comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Nice to Have Qualifications:

  • Experience selling through channel or strategic partners.
  • Experience in an early-stage startup or high-growth company.
  • Experience in clean technology, renewable energy, energy storage, or EV charging.
  • Familiarity with MEDDICC, Challenger, Command of the Message, or other enterprise sales methodologies.
