BGB Group

VP, Design & Craft

Our Agency

BGB is a healthcare communications agency that offers a wide range of services, including traditional pharmaceutical advertising, promotional medical education, payer marketing, and consulting services. Known for excellence and professionalism, we’re hired as strategic and creative partners by our biopharmaceutical clients to drive category/brand awareness and growth.

As VP, Design & Craft, you will serve as the agency’s go-to voice on design quality, execution, and visual storytelling, influencing work at the highest level while setting new standards of beauty, rigor, and craft across every brand, client, and discipline we support.

Key Responsibilities

Agency-Wide Craft Leadership

  • Serve as a central creative force for design craft and visual excellence across the agency.
  • Ensure major creative workstreams meet BGB’s highest standards for quality, cohesion, and executional rigor.
  • Act as the steward of BGB’s design principles, visual standards, and craft benchmarks.

Design & Visual Leadership

  • Consult/lead the design function across campaigns, branding, digital experiences, and visual identity systems.
  • Oversee the development of logos, brand systems, brand architecture, style guides, and digital identities.
  • Ensure visual storytelling is elevated, intentional, and consistent across all client touchpoints.

Craft & Execution Excellence

  • Act as the agency’s lead visual innovator, setting the bar for executional excellence across disciplines.
  • Provide senior-level design direction and final polish on high-visibility work, including pitches, launches, and flagship campaigns.
  • Ensure exceptional attention to detail across typography, layout, image-making, motion, and digital execution.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Will lead and oversee the Design and Presentation departments.
  • Establish clear expectations around craft quality, feedback, and professional development.
  • Identify when and how to engage specialized talent (e.g., motion designers, retouchers, typographers) to deliver best-in-class execution.

Innovation & Evolution

  • Stay at the forefront of design trends, emerging technologies, motion, and AI-enabled creative tools.
  • Encourage experimentation and modernization while maintaining disciplined, high-quality execution.
  • Continuously evolve BGB’s visual point of view and creative reputation in the marketplace.

Presentation & Pitch Excellence

  • Oversee presentation design and visual storytelling for pitches, decks, and client-facing materials, ensuring the same level of craft and creativity as campaign work.

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner closely with Creative Directors, Copy Leadership, and Strategy to ensure design is integral to the idea — not an afterthought.
  • Provide design leadership across Market Access and Medical Communications, elevating data visualization, scientific storytelling, and complex content.
  • Collaborate with UX/UI, Social, and Omnichannel teams to align on evolving trends and deliver maximum audience impact with efficient production.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in design and art direction, with 7–10+ years in senior leadership roles within creative agencies, studios, or brand environments.
  • Proven experience leading and scaling a design or studio function in hybrid advertising, branding, or healthcare communications settings.
  • Deep expertise in typography, layout, branding, and visual identity, supported by a strong portfolio demonstrating both conceptual thinking and exceptional execution.
  • Hands-on craft expertise across image-making, retouching, motion, and digital design, paired with strong judgment on when to bring in specialized partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to raise the bar for craft excellence and establish new creative standards across an organization.
  • Experience mentoring and developing creative talent across levels and disciplines.
  • Strong presentation design sensibility, with a proven ability to elevate pitch and client-facing materials.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills; able to influence senior creative, strategy, and client leadership.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or related field (Master’s degree or equivalent experience a plus).
