Job Title: Vice President, Finance
Location: Toronto/Waterloo/Montreal
Job Summary: Reporting to the SVP & CFO SL Canada, the successful candidate will oversee accounting and controls, financial planning, reporting and analysis, and finance optimization for the Canadian Business Group. This role is accountable for delivering timely and insightful financial reporting, providing strategic financial guidance to support decision-making, and ensuring a strong control environment. The leader will also drive efficiency and effectiveness across Finance through the use of technology, automation and process re-engineering. Close collaboration is required with the CFOs of Sun Life’s Canadian business units, as well as with key partners across Canadian Actuarial, ALM, Risk, Strategy and the Corporate Office.
Key Role Accountabilities
- Take a leadership role in managing the quarterly close and reporting processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. This includes financial and regulatory reporting for certain subsidiaries, including Sun Life Insurance (Canada) Inc. (SLI)
- Partner with business unit CFO’s, Business Unit leaders, Actuarial and ALM to develop business and strategic plans that meet SL Canada growth aspirations
- Provide leadership and insight on accounting matters and internal controls over financial reporting
- Collaborate with leaders across SL Canada to align financial strategies with business objectives and support informed decision-making
- Lead the Global Finance Evolution program for the SL Canada Finance function and execute on optimization initiatives

- A trusted financial advisor to the CFO SL Canada, as well as a hands-on partner to key stakeholders including P&L leaders

- Proven ability working within a complex, regulated environment and able to interact and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
- In depth knowledge and experience with internal controls, insurance financial reporting standards (IFRS), as well as financial reporting, planning and analysis
- Transformative leader, with ability to leverage GenAI and digital capabilities to continuously improve financial processes/reporting. Experience developing and leading innovation and process improvement.
- Proven ability to operate well in ambiguity and resilient in changing situations
- Confident and articulate communicator, capable of engaging and challenging individuals at all levels of the organization
- Exceptional people leadership experience, passion for fostering and developing high potential and diverse talent
Experience and Education
- CPA designation, with 10-15 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Deep financial acumen, with the ability to provide accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis, and recommendations regarding the financial performance of the businesses
- Strategic mindset with business value orientation, thought leadership and focus on quantifying business value realization
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with ability to present at multiple leadership tables and ability to translate complex technical analysis into simplified concepts
- Collaborative and influencing skills to work in a matrix environment.
- Experience in enhancing accounting processes, increase efficiencies related to financial reporting, effective business planning and analysis
- Forward thinking leader, with the ability to translate complex financial forecasts and analysis into simplified concepts
- Experience working in a diverse environment from a business as well as cultural perspective

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
