Provides expert technical guidance for legacy rail fleet maintenance, including locomotives and passenger coaches. Responsibilities include troubleshooting complex equipment issues, verifying resolutions, reviewing technical documentation, training maintenance personnel, advising stakeholders, addressing product design concerns, developing KPIs, preparing reports, and escalating potential complications to senior management while ensuring HSE and company policy compliance.
The System Specialist/Technical Advisor will be responsible for providing a specialized knowledge and expertise in the area of rail maintenance and systems for the Metrolinx’s Legacy Fleet Maintenance operations.
This individual will collaborate with the management team, customers, suppliers, partners and involved stakeholders.
Reporting to the Reliability Centered Maintenance and Engineering Manager, will be accountable to provide expert knowledge and guidance specific to rail equipment maintenance including systems, and other related maintenance activities.
Responsibilities
- Confirm that all HSE policies, processes and procedures are being complied
- Provide instruction, training, guidance, and technical expertise in the area of rail equipment maintenance for rail locomotives and passenger coaches
- Ability to review reports, research material and other documents for technical accuracy
- Provide consultation on issues that require a higher technical knowledge
- Able to troubleshoot complex technical issue and determine a resolution
- Verify that technical issues have been resolved satisfactorily
- Be the subject matter expert on a wide range of maintenance processes and systems
- Provide guidance to internal and external contacts
- Be the point of contact on all complex technical issues
- Provide feedback on complex product design issues
- Ability to develop KPI’s and present data
- Prepare senior management relating any potential complications
- Work with the team to prepare and create recurrent reports that are requested by operations or higher
- Comply with the company’s applicable policies and procedures as well as human resources’ guidelines
- Ability to build strong rapport with the team and unionized maintenance personnel
- Strong Engineering background
- 5 to 10 years working on rail equipment (or similar products) as a technical subject matter expert. Must have rail locomotive and passenger coach experience and knowledge
- Solid understanding of trouble shooting complex issues
- Extensive background of accomplishing business strategies
- Diploma or degree relating to the field of expertise (ie. Electrical, Mechanical Engineering)
