What will you do as an Sustainability Manager?The Sustainability Manager offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to make a tangible impact on sustainability while contributing to the long-term success and resilience of the organization. This position is pivotal in spearheading the organization's commitment to sustainability across environmental, social, and economic dimensions, including leading the execution of programs to achieve LMI’s corporate goals in areas such as achieving carbon neutrality and promoting sustainable practices across all operations. This individual is responsible for planning, implementing and maintaining group-wide programs as well as communicating LMI’s vision of sustainability and detailed program information.
The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and related (international) sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g. GRI, CDP) and directives (CSRD). This individual will need the ability to monitor and facilitate progress of sustainability programs consistent with strategies, goals, measurements and reporting standards.
The Sustainability Manager will report to the Vice President of Finance and work out of our Burnaby HQ location. 

Responsibilities:

  • Initiating and Overseeing Group-Wide Projects: Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive sustainability projects designed to drive carbon neutrality across the organization by collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities, set targets, and execute initiatives effectively.
  • Driving Carbon Neutrality: Develop strategies and action plans to minimize carbon emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and promote the use of renewable resources throughout the organization. Continuously monitor progress towards carbon neutrality goals and adjust strategies as needed to ensure targets are met.
  • Ensuring Data Accuracy and Consistency: Establish effective systems for collecting, analyzing, and reporting sustainability data and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Ensure that data is accurately documented and reported in accordance with relevant standards and guidelines. Implement measures to improve data quality and consistency over time. Participate in internal and external audits in the fields of ESG, ISO.
  • Influencing Others: Act as a champion for sustainability within the organization, advocating for the adoption of environmentally responsible practices at all levels. Engage with stakeholders across departments and regions to build support for sustainability initiatives and drive cultural change towards a more sustainable mindset. 
  • Ensure alignment of LMI’s sustainability goals across the organization by working with Quality to review, improve and align our ISO 14001 EMS, and with the EcoSmart teams to improve and align team initiatives. 
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Stay abreast of regulatory requirements and industry best practices related to sustainability and carbon management. Ensure that the organization remains compliant with relevant regulations and proactively identify and mitigate any potential sustainability-related risks.
  • Communication/Governance: Work with internal stakeholders to promote cross-functional alignment and create communication to share sustainability-related vision and program information which may include ESG playbook/handbook, project updates, best practices, KPI’s, etc.

What do you need to be successful?

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field.
  • Proven experience in managing sustainability initiatives, with a focus on carbon emissions reduction and ESG initiatives.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to plan, organize, and execute complex initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of sustainability principles, ESG frameworks and sustainable reporting practices.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively influence and persuade others towards sustainable practices.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards related to sustainability and environmental management. ISO 140001 accreditation or experience is an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment and drive consensus towards shared goals.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, problem solving, and decision-making abilities

BC ONLY: Salary Range: $80,000 CAD - $114,000 CAD
