We are looking for a Strategic Finance Manager who can work across the entire finance organization of a fast-paced startup and help us build the financial backbone for our business. In this role you will wear many hats, and be excited to support FP&A, Investor Relations, as well Corporate Development, Corporate Strategy and Business Operations. The right person for this role has a flexible, client-service mentality from years in a professional services environment (eg, investment banking, consulting) and can balance careful, long-term, analytical work product with a bias for prompt, proactive action to drive progress. Key attributes for success include: strong finance and accounting fundamentals; sharp critical thinking skills; ability to rapidly produce and iterate custom, high-impact work product for executive consumption; meticulous attention to detail; and, the courage to speak up and ask questions with tact and contextual awareness. Initially, this role is scoped to be an individual contributor, but anticipate it will evolve into a team leadership role as the company continues to grow. The position is highly visible and involves collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders.

In this role you will:

  • Author and support development of high-impact presentation materials for C-level executives and Board of Directors-level audiences.
  • Prepare custom, detailed financial analyses and models of various kinds as needed, including forecasts of new or alternative revenue streams, M&A, PF capitalization, debt recap analyses, and component cost analysis. Support updates and modifications to existing model platforms in use at the company.
  • Assist in developing and implementing appropriate FP&A systems and processes for planning cadences, reporting, forecasting and consolidations. Participate in core finance and accounting processes/requirements (eg, quarterly close) and make proactive suggestions for process improvement.
  • Seek opportunities to reduce forecast variances to plan. Be alert for opportunities to drive cost from our model. Develop formats and approaches for reporting on variances vs. plan and the story behind the numbers.
  • Participate in recruiting to support the aggressive growth of the company

What you'll bring:

  • 6-8 years minimum of experience in investment banking, private equity or corporate development, coupled with complex financial analyses; FP&A experience a bonus
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. MBAs, CPAs and CFAs are a bonus.
  • Intellectual agility, curiosity and creativity; problem-solving is your default mode. You have the ability to dive deep into a wide range of complex topics, quickly deduce accurate findings and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Tremendous work ethic. You are diligent and committed to the task at hand while being able to balance speed and efficiency.
  • Ability to conceptualize, build, audit and modify cash and GAAP financial models a must
  • Has the ability to work independently, effectively handle multiple competing priorities and manage deadlines under pressure.
  • Advanced data analytics skills. You possess the ability to extract, clean, prepare, analyze, visualize and present data with thoughtful insights for operational improvement. You can handle complexity but simplify when necessary.
  • Experience building and developing bottoms-ups financial operating models from scratch in Excel and is well versed in foundational accounting concepts, e.g., ability to build a 3-statement financial model, strong understanding of various business models and associated revenue models; advanced accounting knowledge a plus.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Pigment a plus.
  • Experience working at early stage startups is a plus.

The annual salary range for this full-time position in California is $120,000-$180,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Please note that the compensation details listed above are base salary only and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
