About the Role:
The Trust Platform team builds and maintains the systems that orchestrate fraud detection, identity verification, and regulatory reporting across all Remitly products. Our mission is to keep customers safe and Remitly compliant while enabling fast, reliable, and user friendly identity verification.
As a Staff Engineer on Trust Platform, you will provide technical leadership across multiple domains, shaping the architecture and evolution of systems that are foundational to Remitly's business. You will drive initiatives that improve KYC/identity verification, regulatory screening, and compliance reporting, while ensuring these services are scalable, fault-tolerant, and reusable across product lines.
You will partner with engineering managers, product, and analytics leaders to set long-term technical direction, make build-vs-buy tradeoffs, and define standards for reliability, observability, and security. You'll mentor engineers across the org, raising the technical bar and ensuring the platform can meet rapidly evolving fraud and compliance challenges worldwide. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager of Trust Orchestration Platform.
You Will:
- Lead the design and evolution of core Trust Platform services
- Set architectural strategy
- Partner with cross-functional teams to align business, regulatory, and technical priorities.
- Mentor engineers, guiding technical decisions and elevating engineering quality across the org.
- Influence company-wide initiatives by bringing deep domain expertise in fraud and identity verification systems.
You Have:
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in a senior or staff-level role.
- Proven experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale, with strong fundamentals in system design, data modeling, and performance optimization.
- Deep knowledge of backend technologies (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Go, or similar), data processing frameworks, and service-oriented architecture
- Experience with setting technical direction and leading large, cross-team engineering initiatives.
- Experience with observability, reliability engineering, and ensuring high availability in mission-critical systems.
Compensation Details. The starting base salary range for this position is
$172,000 - $215,000. In Canada, Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
