Lead strategy and execution of AI-powered experiences in Dropbox's Dash. Define product vision, translate opportunities into strategies, and collaborate with teams to drive product innovation.

Role Description

Dropbox’s desktop app is where millions of people and teams build their everyday workflows — it’s the place where Dropbox moves from “storage” to “how work gets done.” Under the hood, Dropbox’s Sync Engine remains the heart of what made Dropbox magical: the invisible technology that “just worked,” keeping files available, reliable, and up to date everywhere.

As the Staff Product Manager for Desktop, you will set and lead the end-to-end strategy for Dropbox on desktop — spanning both our Desktop User Experience surface and the core sync technology that powers it. You’ll be responsible for evolving Dropbox from a background utility into a foreground workflow companion that assists customer’s without getting in their way, while continuing to advance sync reliability, performance, and trust at scale.

This role requires a rare blend of technical depth, strategic vision, and product craftsmanship. You’ll translate deep platform and systems complexity (distributed file systems, OS-level integration, performance and reliability constraints) into experiences that feel simple, intuitive, and indispensable. You’ll partner closely with senior engineering and design leaders, and you’ll regularly present strategy, tradeoffs, and progress to senior company leadership and external partners.

Responsibilities
  • Define and drive the long-term vision, strategy, and roadmap for Dropbox on Desktop, spanning both the Desktop Experience and the Sync Engine.
  • Lead the evolution of Dropbox Desktop from a background sync utility into a foreground product that actively supports customer workflows — improving discoverability, usability, and day-to-day value
  • Lead and guide product direction for a deeply technical, cross-functional team of engineers, designers, data scientists, and platform partners.
  • Build strong relationships across Dropbox (Desktop, Mobile, Platform, Growth, Security, Support, Partnerships) to ensure a cohesive cross-surface experience and shared outcomes.
  • Become an expert in the Dropbox Desktop customer — understanding the needs of both individuals and teams through user research, partner feedback, data insights, and deep technical understanding.
  • Own complex, multi-quarter initiatives end-to-end, from defining product specs and success metrics to driving cross-company execution and sharing insights and learnings throughout the organization.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve sync reliability, speed, and transparency while maintaining Dropbox’s reputation for simplicity and trust.
  • Anticipate and adapt to platform evolution (Windows, macOS, Linux), ensuring Dropbox stays ahead of OS and filesystem changes.
  • Communicate clearly and crisply with leadership, articulating tradeoffs and strategic rationale while driving alignment through both formal processes and scrappy execution.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience as a Product Manager, with a track record of shipping high-quality, user-facing products in deeply technical domains.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Information Systems, Applied Math or Statistics, or relevant experience.
  • Strong technical depth — able to engage with senior engineers and make informed tradeoffs on architecture, performance, and scalability — while maintaining a deep empathy for the customer experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical systems into simple, delightful, and intuitive user experiences.
  • Proven success driving strategy and execution for platform or client-side technologies — ideally in sync, storage, networking, or distributed systems — that resulted in measurable customer value.
  • Skilled at balancing the “what” and “how”: you can navigate infrastructure decisions while keeping the end-user experience front and center.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to connect technical performance metrics with customer satisfaction and business outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills — able to articulate complexity clearly and inspire both engineers and executives.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in highly collaborative environments and operate effectively amid ambiguity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading strategy for core infrastructure or sync systems at scale.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems, file synchronization, or storage technologies.
  • Track record of delivering positive outcomes for the business and customers in technically complex domains.
  • Experience mentoring PMs or serving as a cultural leader within a high-performing product organization.
