Innovating at the intersection of electric transportation and the grid
The Role

About Us

The future of transportation is electric, and our software solves the most critical emerging grid integration challenges to ensure that the impending energy transition is clean, equitable, and resilient. Our enterprise solutions help the grid absorb the coming electrification wave with ease. Utilizing modern, cloud-native platform architecture and robust systems optimization, WeaveGrid’s software is built from the ground up to tackle the most critical network challenges while meeting the stringent regulatory, security, and reliability requirements of the utility industry.

About the job

At WeaveGrid, we are working to accelerate the electrification of transportation and the decarbonization of the electric grid. Our SaaS products monitor and manage the charging of electric vehicles on behalf of electric utilities to serve the needs of drivers and the health of the electric grid.

We are looking for a senior hands-on Engineering leader to lead the development of WeaveGrid’s Managed Charge system as the industry-leading solution into the next phase of the company’s growth. The Managed Charge system balances drivers’ mobility needs against the health and carbon intensity of the electrical grid, taking into account a wide range of grid signals. The MC system determines, delivers, and monitors charging schedules for EVs and chargers while managing the complexity of real-world imperfections.

The ideal candidate should have over 10+ years of industry experience, exceptional hands-on coding skills, and proven technical leadership abilities in a dynamic environment. They should be enthusiastic about tackling challenging problems with real-world impact and adept at viewing system issues from multiple perspectives. This includes balancing the needs of drivers, utilities, the grid, EV manufacturers, and Weavegrid. No prior experience in the energy sector is necessary.

In this role, we will ask you to:

  • Be the Technical lead and Manager for WeaveGrid’s Managed Charging team, responsible for systems and algorithms for generating and executing optimized charging schedules for EVs
  • Lead, guide and grow a team of senior Engineers to deliver the product roadmap for WeaveGrid’s Managed Charging system
  • Provide technical leadership and hands-on implementation to maintain and enhance the reliability, robustness, and maintainability of our complex distributed system, ensuring that our core product continues to scale effectively
  • Help design or lead the development of the next generation of managed charging features. This includes creating new types of optimization signals, integrating new vehicles and chargers in various charging environments, enabling whole home integration, implementing workplace charging, and optimizing for solar energy.
  • Contribute to the visualization/demo/reporting layer of Managed Charge
  • Work productively with  our AWS-based cloud production environment e.g. rollouts & use Containers, Kubernetes, AWS, GitHub, Jira/Confluence, and CircleCI in our development process
  • Develop new features and system architecture on the backend of the Weavegrid stack: python+fastAPI+mariadb+k8s+aws
  • Special projects and other duties as designated by your manager or assigned designee.

About you

  • You want to apply your talents to meaningfully address climate change.
  • You have demonstrated the ability to work closely with Product Management and other non-technical stakeholders to deliver an end-to-end product
  • You have lead the development of a large, company critical,  complex system that are subjected to imperfect interfaces and require robust exception handling
  • You are able to work in growing codebase and mature its interfaces and increase its robustness over time
  • You are able help your team and associated UI/UX partner teams to develop helpful visualization of the output of your system for the internal and external end users
  • You care about the craft of software.  You feel a sense of ownership about code. You enjoy solving hard problems and don’t mind the complexity of software that interacts with “the real world”
  • You have an interest in cloud-based backend data systems, software interacting with real-world devices and data quality management that turns messy data into valuable business assets.  Past experience working in these areas is a huge plus!
  • You have solid experience working in Python or Go.
  • You enjoy being hands-on in the full lifecycle of software development - from early design to testing, production deployment, and post-launch iteration, to measuring and monitoring outcomes, and quickly fixing problems that may arise.
  • You are comfortable working within a microservice based architecture and have experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or other microservice technologies.
  • You are comfortable with Agile software development and DevOps practices.
  • You have experience working on smaller teams or at smaller companies and are willing to share that experience to make us better.
  • You believe in constant learning and are excited to help us build this growing company.

The total compensation for this opportunity includes a base salary range of $219,000-$250,000 plus equity (stock options) and benefits. This is our target compensation range and is subject to multiple factors including role, level, experience, and location. As you go through our interview process, our recruiter will work with you to identify a competitive base salary within the proposed range and combine it with an equity package to get you excited about your future at WeaveGrid.
