Viral Nation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Platform Engineer to help shape and scale our cloud-native platform, fully deployed on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). As a senior member of the engineering team, you will provide technical leadership, guide infrastructure architecture, and ensure our platform meets high standards for performance, scalability, security, and maintainability. You will work closely with both technical and non-technical teams, driving platform evolution to support our rapidly growing business.
What You'll Do Here:
- Design, build, and maintain highly scalable, secure, and reliable platform services and APIs on GCP.
- Optimize our microservices architecture to ensure performance, resilience, and cost efficiency at scale.
- Improve deployment pipelines, automate infrastructure, and enhance monitoring and alerting systems.
- Design and implement comprehensive observability solutions including monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting across the platform.
- Participate in on-call rotations to ensure platform availability, responding to incidents and performing root cause analysis.
- Implement and refine infrastructure-as-code using tools such as Terraform/OpenTofu or similar, ensuring repeatable and consistent environments.
- Ensure the platform meets key non-functional requirements (availability, reliability, scalability, performance).
- Lead the technical design of new platform capabilities, ensuring alignment with architectural principles and coding standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical deliverables.
- Conduct code reviews, and promote engineering best practices across the team.
- Participate in Scrum ceremonies, contributing to backlog refinement, sprint planning, and delivery tracking.
- Refactor and optimize existing services for performance and maintainability.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing long-term fixes.
- Stay current with emerging cloud, DevOps, and backend technologies, evaluating potential adoption for our platform.
You'll Need To Have:
- 5+ years of experience in platform engineering, with proven expertise in cloud-native architectures.
- Hands-on experience deploying, operating, and scaling applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) (Compute Engine, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL/Firestore/BigQuery etc.).
- Strong programming skills in Node.js or similar backend languages/frameworks.
- In-depth knowledge of microservices and API design.
- Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code (OpenTofu, Terraform, Pulumi, or similar).
- Strong CI/CD experience (Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, or similar) and containerization expertise (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools (Google Cloud Monitoring, or similar).
- Proven experience with on-call responsibilities and incident response in production environments.
- Experience with database systems (SQL and NoSQL), data modeling, and performance optimization.
- Strong understanding of cloud security best practices and identity/access management.
- Clear, concise communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
