About the role

With offices in downtown Toronto and Montreal, the Lab is a digital innovation hub utilizing machine learning, data science, software engineering, AI, agility, and user experience to create groundbreaking products that improve the lives of millions of Canadians. Simplifying insurance requires creativity, empathy, and hard work. We explore, take risks, make mistakes, and learn every day. Here, innovation is everyone's job.

What you’ll do here:

  • Give a voice to our customers by leveraging user-centered design practices, translating user needs and business requirements into engaging digital features and functionality.

  • Use insights and data to craft human-centered digital experiences that are clear, highly usable, visually appealing, and help achieve business objectives.

  • Participate in strategic planning and roadmap definition alongside product owners and multidisciplinary agile teams.

  • Collaborate with product managers, product owners, engineers, researchers, copywriters, and marketers to produce quality interfaces: delivering the end-to-end solution from conception until launch, and iteration.

  • Assess and optimize feature performance with customers, analytics, and design research.

  • Leverage and interpret Design System libraries and design guidelines for multiple brands, while advocating for improvements within the design community.

  • Create all assets necessary to effectively conceptualize, communicate, and deliver the user experience, working closely with developers for seamless execution.

  • Present creative design concepts and work to various audiences, including executives and stakeholders, to propel new digital experiences.

  • Give and solicit feedback to/from other designers and collaborators to continually raise our bar for quality.

  • Elevate the team's design practices, methodologies, and processes while advocating for user-centered, data-driven design.

What you bring to the table:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience designing digital products that have been released in the market, with a proven track record of success.

  • Ability to understand business needs and translate them into design requirements.

  • Experience delivering end-to-end digital solutions (from briefing to launch) within a cross-functional team environment using an iterative approach that leverages quantitative and qualitative measurement.

  • Ability to contribute to multiple initiatives concurrently with ambiguous scope.

  • Expertise in usability and user-centered design practices, with visual design experience. You appreciate and understand how typography, color, and layout can impact product function.

  • Mastery of design tools (Figma, Miro, Axure, Illustrator, etc.). Experience with UX research tools is an asset (usertesting.com, Hotjar, etc.).

  • Experience in producing customer journey maps, process flows, content inventories, wireframes, prototypes, and polished interface design files.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

  • You love working in a collaborative environment focused on teamwork, innovation, open minds, and fun.

  • (Preferred) E-commerce experience, with a focus on growth and A/B testing.

  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.

  • For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism is required considering the necessity to interact on a regular basis with English-speaking colleagues across the country

Please include your portfolio in your application.

You are:

  • Creative, analytical, curious, and ingenious.

  • A team player who is capable of sharing and receiving constructive feedback.

  • You excel at explaining your ideas to different stakeholders.

  • Deeply passionate about design, quality, and craft.

  • Organized, fully autonomous, and proactive.
