Major Job Functions:
- Responsible for the preparation and review of consolidated monthly, quarterly and annual income tax provisions and financial statement disclosures in accordance with IFRS. Work closely with the financial reporting group and regional tax teams to meet income tax reporting obligations.
- Responsible for the preparation and review of consolidated forecasts and budget income tax provisions and proactively analyze effective tax rates
- Responsible for management of global tax reserve analysis in accordance with IAS 12
- Assist with preparation of tax material for the Audit Committee and CFO
- Provide support and oversight on global and Canadian tax compliance including maintenance of surplus pools, T1134 reporting requirements, and OECD tax initiatives (Country-by-country and GMT requirements)
- Support and lead the tax authority audit processes, appeals and dispute resolutions
- Provide support and oversight in the global transfer pricing regime. Oversight of global transfer pricing policies and maintenance of reports and relevant documentation.
- Support in the development, management and implementation of regional and international tax planning projects including repatriation planning and corporate restructuring
- Support in the maintenance of international tax structure and corporate organizational chart
- Conduct tax research and monitor global trends and developments including changes in tax legislations in jurisdictions that Finning operates in and obtain familiarity with the tax issues in these jurisdictions
- Analyze the impact of tax changes and ensure the company is proactive in responding to changes in the worldwide tax environment and leveraging emerging opportunities
Support overall management and administration of Global Tax department
- Play a key role in the design and maintenance of effective controls within the tax area, and ensuring all required documentation exists and has been reviewed and approved (Bill 198 related)
- Providing tax advice of relevance to Finning business
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify tax technology needs and lead the implementation of system and processes to improve efficiency of the global tax processes.
- Responsible for managing monthly tax updates with all regions
- Maintain system processes and documents in accordance with applicable legislation and company guidelines.
- Contribute to the training and guidance of other tax professional in the global tax group
- Responsible for management and development of professional tax staff
- Liaise with external auditors and external tax accountants and legal advisors
- Liaise with tax professionals in peer companies on emerging tax issues
- Accountable for maintenance and implementation of internal controls and tax processes
Skills and Qualifications Required:
- Minimum of seven years of Canadian and International tax experience, either with a CPA firm or a large publicly traded or multinational organization
- Strong knowledge of Canadian, and International Tax
- Strong knowledge of accounting for income taxes
- Excellent tax technical and analytical abilities
- Experience with tax research tools
- Ability to analyze and solve complex financial accounting and taxation issues thoroughly and accurately
- Ability to adapt to changing tax laws and regulations
- Experience with tax technology, process transformation and automation
- CPA/CA or equivalent Professional Accounting designation
- Completion of CICA in-depth tax course
