Company Overview

At Hubstaff, our mission is to empower people to have their most productive workday. We do this by providing the industry-leading workforce analytics and time tracking platform for remote and distributed teams.

We’ve been fully remote for over a decade—long before it became a trend—and we continue to believe that remote work represents the most significant shift in the modern workplace since the advent of the PC. Our platform helps more than 95,000 businesses track time, manage schedules, and automate payments with transparency and accountability at its core.

We’re a product-led company with a winning culture, strong momentum, and a long-term vision: to become an essential part of every remote company’s tech stack. And we’re just getting started.

The Role

We’re hiring 2 Senior Rails Full-Stack Developers and 1 Senior Rails Back-End Developer to join our engineering team. While the specific responsibilities differ slightly, what really matters is your deep expertise with Ruby on Rails. Depending on your skills and interests, you’ll be considered for the best fit. These are full-time (40 hrs/week), remote positions with long-term potential.

You’ll be more than a feature builder — you’ll design and scale systems that power a high-performance, globally distributed SaaS platform. You’ll collaborate closely with our Engineering Manager, frontend developers, and product stakeholders to shape technical direction, improve architecture, and solve complex performance challenges.

We value stability and deep product knowledge. We’re looking for engineers who see themselves growing with a product and team for years, not just their next short-term contract.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain new services and features using Ruby on Rails.

  • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and frontend team to define priorities and roadmap.

  • Architect scalable systems that handle large datasets and high request volumes.

  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across database, application, and infrastructure layers.

  • Implement robust background job processing using Sidekiq and Redis.

  • Write automated tests (RSpec, Jest) to ensure reliability and maintainability.

  • (Full-Stack roles only) Build and integrate with modern front-end frameworks (React or Vue.js).

  • Participate in code reviews, documentation, and team planning sessions.

  • Balance technical excellence with timely delivery — knowing when “good and shipped” is the right call.

What You Should HaveRequired
  • 7+ years of professional development experience, including 5+ years building and maintaining production Rails applications.

  • Proven track record designing systems for scale, performance, and reliability (e.g., millions of records, high-concurrency environments).

  • Strong database skills with PostgreSQL or MySQL, including query optimization and schema design.

  • Experience with background job frameworks (Sidekiq, Resque) and asynchronous processing patterns.

  • Solid understanding of modern architectural patterns (e.g., service-oriented architecture, event sourcing).

  • Working knowledge of modern JavaScript (React, Vue, or similar) — required for full-stack roles, nice-to-have for back-end.

  • Experience working asynchronously in fully remote teams.

  • A history of multi-year tenure in recent roles, showing commitment and sustained impact.

Nice to Have
  • Experience with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and search engines (Elasticsearch, Solr).

  • Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP).

  • Performance tuning in high-traffic applications.

Location

We are hiring in: Argentina, Brazil, Poland, Romania, Spain, Portugal

Compensation & Contract Type
  • Contract Type: Independent contractor (preferred)

  • Hourly Rate: $45–50 USD/hour

  • Hours: Full-time, ~40 hours/week

Why You’ll Love Working with Us
  • A remote-first culture built on trust, autonomy, and async collaboration.

  • Opportunities to work on technically challenging problems at scale.

  • Long-term product focus — build something you can truly invest in over time.

  • Competitive pay for top talent.

Inclusion at Hubstaff

Hubstaff is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all team members, regardless of background, identity, or lived experience.
