Job Description:

At Remitly, we believe everyone deserves the freedom to access, move, and manage their money wherever life takes them. Since 2011, we've tirelessly delivered on our promise to customers sending money globally, providing secure, simple, and reliable ways to manage their money, ensuring true peace of mind. Whether it's supporting loved ones back home, growing a business across continents, or pursuing new opportunities abroad, we're not just here to move money— we're here to move our global customers forward.
We're looking for builders, reimaginers, and global thinkers who want to work at the intersection of technology, trust, and transformation. If that's you and you're ready to do the most meaningful work of your career—we invite you to join over 2,800 passionate Remitlians worldwide who are united by our vision to transform lives with trusted financial services that transcend borders.

About the role:

Remitly's Global Experience Platform team makes our products globally ready by design. We build the internationalization (i18n) infrastructure, translation pipelines, and AI-powered tooling that let every customer experience Remitly as locally made, whatever their language, script, or locale. Your work will reach millions of customers across 18+ languages and 175+ countries, many of them immigrants supporting family back home. You'll help Remitly launch new countries and languages faster and raise the quality of localized experiences in the markets we already serve, working as an equal partner with our Localization team.

You Will

Technical leadership
  • Own complex, team-level projects end to end: clarify requirements, break work into parallel tasks, and guide teammates to on-time delivery.
  • Establish the technical roadmap for internationalization engineering, balancing near-term market launches with long-term scalability.
  • Drive the build-or-buy recommendation for an AI-powered translation orchestration and governance layer, and set quality standards that hold as AI scales content.
  • Partner with Localization, Product, Design, Legal, Marketing, and engineering teams to build i18n in early and adopt shared standards.
  • Mentor engineers through code and design reviews, interviews, and onboarding.
Engineering delivery
  • Build AI/LLM-powered translation tooling: evaluate models, design quality guardrails, and integrate them into production localization pipelines.
  • Build and operate translation pipelines and i18n tooling integrated with our TMS and CI/CD, including text extraction, locale-specific rendering, and pseudo-locale testing.
  • Standardize i18n frameworks across frontend and backend for date/time, currency, pluralization, and message formatting, with static analysis that catches defects before release.
  • Fix the legacy code behind recurring translation bugs.
  • Expand language coverage: right-to-left and bidirectional support, and transliteration tooling for accurate customer identity matching across scripts.

You Have

  • 6+ years of software development, including hands-on i18n/l10n engineering and leading delivery of complex features.
  • Strong TypeScript/JavaScript (including React or React Native) plus a backend language such as Go, Java, Kotlin, or Python; or a comparable ecosystem and a track record of picking up new stacks quickly.
  • Experience applying AI/LLMs in production, with sound judgment about where automation should and shouldn't replace human review, and using AI tools across the development lifecycle.
  • Working knowledge of Unicode, ICU/CLDR, locale-aware formatting, and resource file formats.
  • A track record of building or scaling localization systems and translation pipelines.
  • Clear communication across functions and the ability to teach teams why i18n matters.

Nice to have

  • Shipped RTL/bidirectional language support in production.
  • Experience with localizability audits and pseudo-locale validation.
  • Hands-on TMS experience (Lokalise, Phrase, Smartling, Transifex) and XLIFF.
  • Fintech, remittance, or other regulated-industry experience.
