About Us
Nesto is a leading Canadian fintech company founded in Montreal in 2018. Our core mission is to offer a positive, empowering, and transparent property financing experience, simplified from start to finish. We initially started as a digital broker, aiming to use technology to bring transparency to the complex mortgage process. We quickly evolved to build Canada’s leading direct-to-consumer online mortgage lending platform, where our qualified mortgage experts are supported by advanced technology.
Since then, we have expanded our offering into a robust "mortgage ecosystem," extending our reach as a B2B partner for large financial institutions across Canada. Our first B2B product debuted in 2022 with IG Wealth Management, coinciding with our Series C funding round. A critical milestone occurred in 2024 when nesto acquired CMLS Group. This acquisition formed the Nesto Group (which houses nesto, CMLS, and its subsidiary brand, Intellifi), resulting in a significant increase in scale. We now have 1,250 employees across 12 offices nationwide and $73 billion CAD in residential and commercial mortgage assets under administration.
Why We Are Hiring
We are creating new development teams as a result of our high growth, and each team includes a Senior QA Automation Developer / Senior Software Developer in Test as part of its core structure. We are also looking to continuously improve our processes and QA practices, so we need someone who can help strengthen automation, raise quality standards, and contribute to how our teams build and deliver software.
In this role, you can expect to use the following tools on a daily basis: Playwright, Postman, Datadog, Docker, ArgoCD, GitHub, TypeScript, and MySQL.
Work Location, Time Zone, and Availability
This remote-first role is open to candidates across Canada. You have the flexibility to work from home or from any of our offices, including Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Ottawa, and Calgary.
What You'll Be Doing
- Architect, build, and maintain robust, scalable automated test suites using Playwright, applying industry best practices and design patterns to ensure long-term maintainability.
- Partner closely with Developers and Product Managers throughout the SDLC to clarify requirements, identify gaps early, and define clear acceptance criteria during Agile ceremonies.
- Contribute to quality across both UI and API testing, leveraging monitoring signals, incident reviews, and customer feedback to identify improvement opportunities.
- Leverage AI in innovative ways to support and accelerate QA automation development tasks.
- Take ownership of broader quality outcomes by staying involved beyond test execution to improve processes, documentation, and team workflows.
- Bring a continuous improvement mindset to the role, staying current with new tools, technologies, and testing methodologies.
- Collaborate with Staff QA Automation Developers to improve processes and QA practices across the organization.
- Work with Product Managers to define comprehensive test plans from design documents, such as PRDs and HLDs.
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for key projects, for example when we integrate new partners/clients.
- Review and execute manual test cases and scripts for features under development using test management/tracking tools to provide feedback on automation suitability to the project team.
- Manually validate features based on test plans and integrate those scenarios into the automated regression test suite.
What you bring:
- 5+ years of QA experience in testing SaaS/cloud applications, with a deep understanding of the full SDLC and how Quality Engineering strategically integrates into the development process.
- 2+ years of hands-on automation framework experience with Playwright, Cypress, or similar frameworks, demonstrating practical ability to author, maintain, and scale end-to-end test suites.
- Automation-first mindset with a proven track record of prioritizing automated coverage over manual or functional-only QA, building reliability into the CI/CD pipeline.
- Full-stack testing capability across UI and API layers, including experience with tools like Postman for API validation, ensuring comprehensive coverage at every level of the stack.
- Test architecture and scalable design expertise, with the ability to build maintainable automation suites using industry-standard design patterns (e.g., Page Object Model, data factories, separation of concerns).
- Agile fluency and tooling experience, including comfort working in rapid delivery environments with frequent release cycles, and familiarity with test management platforms like Allure TestOps for reporting and tracking.
- A strong background in TypeScript and/or Go is a plus, as is experience with MySQL or similar relational databases.
This role might be for you (and you’ll be successful if)
- You approach automation with a software engineering mindset, applying the same rigor, design patterns, and scalability standards to your code as a developer would to a core feature.
- You are a "Shift Left" advocate who identifies gaps and clarifies requirements during the planning phase, long before the first line of code is written.
- You take a data-driven, holistic view of quality, moving beyond basic UI tests to utilize API testing, system signals, and customer feedback to find improvements.
- You are an AI-forward and technically curious thinker who naturally experiments with modern tools and innovative methodologies to evolve your strategy and increase your impact.
- You are technically curious and adaptable, and a restless optimizer who feels a sense of ownership over team processes and documentation, always looking for ways to make the development flow smoother.
You shouldn’t apply if:
- You are primarily a manual tester and do not want to focus on architecting automation or learning new technologies.
- You prefer a reactive "waterfall" approach where you wait for development to finish before getting involved or collaborating with the team.
- You are most comfortable in a narrow, fixed-scope role where you simply execute tests rather than challenging requirements and identifying gaps.
- You prefer to work in isolation and lack the initiative to improve broader team workflows, documentation, or quality processes.
- You are not ready to integrate AI tools into your daily workflow to drive efficiency.
