Sustainability & Circular Economy Principal, IT Asset Lifecycle Management
ROLE SUMMARY
Iron Mountain's Asset Lifecycle Management business is seeking a Sustainability & Circular Economy Principal — a senior individual contributor who sits at the intersection of product management, client engagement, and thought leadership. This role is embedded within the Product Management organization, reporting directly to the Director of Product Management, and carries equal weight across all three domains: shaping how Iron Mountain's ALM services evolve to meet sustainability demands, advising clients on how those services connect to their ESG commitments, and building Iron Mountain's credibility and voice to shape the future of this market.
Product Management
Develop new/enhanced offers
Establish reporting standards
Evaluate 3rd party products & partnerships
Client Engagement
Client CSO/sustainability team advisory
Support opportunity pursuits
Collect voice of customer
Thought Leadership
Speak at conference/events
Engage analysts
Craft content & narrative
Build industry partnerships
This is the right role for a practitioner who has operated inside the ITAD industry, developed deep sustainability expertise, and now wants a platform to do all three of those things at the highest level — with the resources and client base of a global enterprise behind them.
WHY THIS ROLE
The question of what happens to enterprise infrastructure at end-of-life has never been more consequential. As enterprises accelerate AI infrastructure buildouts, sustainability commitments become board-level mandates, and regulatory requirements grow more demanding across every major market, the downstream lifecycle of compute assets sits at the intersection of infosec risk, ESG accountability, and financial performance optimization.
Iron Mountain's scale, client relationships, and operational depth in ITAM & ITAD make it uniquely positioned to lead the market conversation on what responsible, sustainable asset lifecycle management looks like. This role exists to build that leadership — through the products we develop, the clients we advise, and the narrative we bring to market.
As a Sustainability Principal, you will operate with significant autonomy, direct access to senior leadership, and the latitude to shape sustainability into a key differentiator. You will not be maintaining a program someone else built. You will take charge to develop a new vision and capability — and do it with the resources, relationships, and client base of a global enterprise behind you.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Management — Shape What Iron Mountain Builds
Conduct structured discovery with clients, prospects, and partners to surface unmet sustainability needs, from ESG impact reporting and Scope 3 attribution to traceability, carbon accounting, and circular economy metrics
Bring well-formed, evidence-backed recommendations to the product roadmap, including new service offerings, enhancements to existing capabilities, and partnership models that address gaps in the market
Evaluate partnerships with sustainability players including circular economy platforms, ESG data providers, carbon registries, and certification bodies — and develop business cases for the most compelling opportunities
Monitor the regulatory and standards landscape such as WEEE, R2v3, ISO 14001, EU CSRD, SEC climate disclosure, Science Based Targets — and translate emerging requirements into product and service implications
Work with operations and compliance to ensure Iron Mountain's practices, certifications, and impact data are measurable, auditable, and reportable in ways that serve client ESG programs
Client Engagement — Advise at the Sustainability Level
Join client conversations, with sales and account teams, as the sustainability subject matter expert, engaging Chief Sustainability Officers, VP Infrastructure, and Head of Procurement personas on how Iron Mountain's ITAD program supports their ESG goals
Help enterprises, OEMs and hyperscale clients understand the connection between their ITAD program and their Scope 3 emissions targets, landfill diversion commitments, and circular economy reporting
Support opportunity pursuits and RFP responses and MSA negotiations where sustainability criteria, certification requirements, and ESG reporting obligations are decision factors
Develop client-facing sustainability reporting frameworks and impact summaries that give Iron Mountain's accounts the data they need for their own ESG disclosures
Maintain a feedback loop between client conversations and the product/service offerings — ensuring that what you hear in the field informs what gets built
Market & Thought Leadership — Build Iron Mountain's Voice
Represent Iron Mountain at ITAD industry conferences, sustainability summits, data center forums, and circular economy events — speaking, moderating, and engaging at the level of a recognized subject matter expert
Shape and own Iron Mountain's sustainability narrative in the ITAD market: messaging frameworks, white papers, bylined articles, case studies, and executive presentations
Engage the analyst community — Gartner, IDC particularly — to ensure Iron Mountain is accurately and compellingly represented in research on sustainable IT asset management
Build a content engine: whether a podcast, a regular LinkedIn presence, a webinar series, or a combination — establish an ongoing channel through which Iron Mountain leads the market conversation on circular economy and sustainable data center lifecycle
Develop relationships with sustainability media, ESG-focused trade press, and peer organizations to amplify Iron Mountain's point of view, in consultation with Marketing & Public Relations.
WHO YOU ARE
You come from the ITAD industry — and it shows.
You have direct, operational experience in IT asset disposition, electronics reuse and recycling, or data center decommissioning — not adjacent to it, in it
You understand how value recovery, data erasure, reverse logistics, and compliance certifications actually work at the delivery level
You know what enterprise and hyperscale clients ask for in an ITAD program — and what they don't know to ask for yet
You are a sustainability practitioner — not just an enthusiast.
You have developed sustainability strategy, set measurable ESG goals, and reported on outcomes in a real organizational context
You have working fluency in circular economy frameworks, ESG reporting standards (GRI, SASB, TCFD, CSRD), and the regulatory landscape governing e-waste and end-of-life IT
You can engage a CSO on Scope 3 methodology and a VP of Infrastructure on decommission workflows in the same client meeting
You are energized by external visibility and market engagement.
You have presented at conferences, published content, hosted or appeared on podcasts, or engaged analysts — and you actively want more of it
You write clearly and compellingly for a business audience and can make technical concepts accessible without losing accuracy or credibility
You are comfortable being a public face of a brand and understand how to represent a company's point of view with authenticity
You think and operate like a product person.
You bring structured thinking to ambiguous problems: you identify the need, frame the opportunity, build the case, and drive to a recommendation
You know how to work across functions — with sales, marketing, legal, operations, and engineering — as a senior individual contributor with influence but no direct authority
You are commercially grounded: you understand that sustainability commitments translate into procurement criteria, and that good product ideas need a business case
PREFERRED BACKGROUND & QUALIFICATIONS
15+ years of experience spanning ITAD, electronics reuse and recycling, or data center lifecycle management — with a meaningful portion in a sustainability-focused or externally-facing capacity
Demonstrated track record of building or scaling a sustainability program, service line, or market initiative within an ITAD or technology services business
Experience engaging enterprise or hyperscale clients at the VP and C-suite level on sustainability criteria in a commercial or advisory context
Public-facing credibility: conference speaking, published content, podcast presence, analyst briefings, or equivalent market visibility
Fluency in ESG reporting frameworks and working knowledge of ITAD certifications and standards
Experience in product management, solutions architecture, or structured service development — formal PM background is a plus, not a requirement
Entrepreneurial background — having founded, scaled, or significantly transformed a business or program is a meaningful differentiator
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required, MBA preferred.
Please note that an employee's starting salary may vary based on a variety of factors. Where State, Municipal, Provincial, Territorial or other legal minimum wages exceed the federal minimum wage, employees are entitled to the higher rate.
