As a Senior PLM 1 - Hardgoods, you will lead seasonal assortment creation for Hardgoods, focusing on strategic merchandising, product lifecycle management, and collaboration across teams.
Your Opportunity at ARC’TERYX:
As a Senior PLM 1 - Hardgoods, you are responsible for the global, long-range vision and the creation of profitable seasonal assortments and line plans across the Hardgoods category (which includes packs, bags, and harnesses). Your strategies align with the overall merchandising strategy and support our company goals by focusing on consumer needs and brand opportunities to bring innovative solutions to market. Partnering with teams across Product Operations, Merchandising, Design and Commercial teams, this role will look deeply at the end to end processes to bring Hardgoods product offerings to life; contributing to the full cycle, from concept through to commercialization.
This role is based out of our North Vancouver office and is open to hybrid work. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.
Meet Your Future Team:
The Product Line Management (PLM) team is responsible for determining and delivering the right product, at the right place, at the right time. In partnership with the Merchant team, PLM delivers product lines that support the overall Design creative direction, while driving company sales, gross margin, and inventory productivity goals, on a global scale. This high performing team works closely with the Design and Product Creation Development teams to bring the product vision to life through future seasonal line plans, and partners with the Costing and Sourcing teams on the upstream side of the product cycle.
If you were a Senior PLM 1 - Hardgoods now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:
- Creating successful short-term and mid-term merchandising strategies (1-5 year plans) across all business units for your categories and product areas
- Planning short and long-term line plans; developing and presenting strategies, working with cross functional partners to bring product (and product stories) to life
- Delivering on our 5-year brand vision by hitting global sales, gross margin and inventory productivity goals through partnership with the Merchants, across all countries and business channels
- Overseeing the successful execution of the merchandising strategy for your product categories
- Mentoring, training and supporting the Associate PLMs and PLMS across your team
- Determining and managing the product lifecycle for each model, from development to commercialization, to eventual redesign, replacement, or retirement
- Partnering on overall strategic direction on seasonal selling plans and supporting our overall strategies (grow, diminish, hold, exit, launch) (sell-thru vs sell-in)
- Providing a global product framework and assortment structure that guides merchant execution within retail, wholesale key accounts and digital channels to maximize sales, profit and global brand positioning
- Researching and analyzing the global marketplace, identifying key consumer and market insights to inform concept work and development of new products
- Writing and presenting product briefs for each new product
- Developing and sustaining a close relationship with Design and Development teams during the seasonal design process to ensure products are aligned with the briefs proposed
- Developing and delivering product presentations for key calendar touchpoints that inspire and deliver the critical information to our internal stakeholders to ensure successful development of seasonal assets and plans
- Maintaining effective partnerships with the Visual Merchandising, Design, Development, Brand Marketing and Colour teams to ensure seasonal strategies come to life in all channels and regions
- Working with the Global Product Education and Brand teams to ensure sell-in tools and product information is consistent across all channels
- Upholding Fair Labor Association’s Workplace Code of Conduct and Principles of Fair Labor and Responsible Sourcing, throughout the Arc’teryx supply chain
- Travelling semi-annually as required

Are you our next Senior PLM 1 - Hardgoods?
- You have 5-8+ years’ experience in Product Line Management, Merchandising, Buying or OutdoorRetail or Customer Service, and 2+ years’ experience leading larger volume functions or categories
- You have a strong command of business mathematics, including skills such as financial forecasting, margin and markup calculations, ROI analysis, and interpreting key performance indicators (KPIs)
- You are highly organized, able to effectively manage your time, and you possess strong analytical, presentation, and communication skills
- You have strong leadership and teamwork skills, able to facilitate work across many different levels of leadership, internal departments and external key accounts and vendors
- You are a creative and strategic thinker, an ‘influencer’, a consensus builder, and excellent team player
- You excel at partnering across diverse teams and departments to establish consensus or drive solutions
- You have a proven track record in developing and leading a team in the execution of a multi-year business strategy
- You have an excellent understanding of the active apparel market within the outdoor industry, and the key outdoor activities we make product for, across climb, snow and trail categories
- You have an excellent understanding of the design and development process
- You are excellent in the use of Adobe and Microsoft Office (especially PowerPoint and Excel)
- You are willing and able to travel as required (trade shows, key dealer presentations, key vendor meetings, core consumer events, etc.)
- You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues and developing solutions
- You are highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity
- You effectively balance autonomy and collaboration
- You inspire breakthrough thinking and continuous improvement
- You seek the best (but sometimes not the easiest) solutions, with an unwavering commitment to do what is right
