From payroll, to administration, to People + Culture, the Operations team ensures that every individual at our firm has the tools, resources, and environment they need to perform at their best – and enjoy the journey along the way.  

Now, Reporting to the Director, People + Culture, we’re looking for a Senior Payroll + Benefits Specialist to join our team and play a critical role in shaping how our business processes and systems scale with us. 

The Opportunity 

The Senior Payroll + Benefits Specialist is responsible for the end-to-end accuracy, compliance, and administration of payroll for an assigned employee population. This role serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for payroll processes, systems, and legislative compliance, ensuring payroll operations align with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regulations, provincial employment standards, and internal policies. 

The position partners closely with People & Culture, Finance, and leadership to provide payroll guidance, support audits, manage system integrations, and continuously improve payroll processes and controls. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Own payroll accuracy and compliance end-to-end Canadian payroll processing
  • Act as the primary payroll escalation point before leadership involvement 
  • Recommend process or policy changes based on payroll impacts 
  • Lead year-end payroll activities (T4/T4A) 
  • Interpret and implement legislative changes (ESA, CRA, provincial tax) 
  • Lead WCB reporting and reconciliations
  • Ensure statutory remittances and filings are accurate and timely 
  • Partner with Finance on payroll-related GL and statutory reconciliations 
  • Design, document, and continuously improve payroll controls 
  • Perform pre- and post-payroll audits and variance analysis 
  • Support external audits (CRA, benefits, financial)  
  • Lead future payroll system testing, configuration, and implementation
  • Act as payroll SME for system changes and integrations 
  • Ensure data integrity across HRIS, payroll, practice management, and finance systems 
  • Document payroll system processes and configurations 
  • Administer and manage the benefits program including ensuring all enrolments, changes, and terminations are processed. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact to employees and Partners on payroll and benefits inquiries
  • Translate policy and legislative requirements into business-friendly guidance 
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of payroll, compensation, and personal data 
  • Ensure compliance with privacy legislation and internal data controls 

 

What You’ll Bring 

  • 5+ years of payroll experience  
  • Proven experience managing payroll year-end activities and statutory reporting 
  • PCP required or actively working toward PCP certification 
  • Experience leading payroll system changes, testing, or integrations  
  • Strong understanding of payroll data flows between HRIS, payroll, and finance systems 
  • Experience supporting payroll audits or implementing internal controls 
  • Strong understanding of payroll risk, controls, and compliance validation 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision 
  • Strong judgment in resolving payroll discrepancies and interpreting policy or legislation

Let’s Talk Numbers 

We believe in transparency and fairness when it comes to compensation. For this role, the annual salary range is $75,000 - $90,000, depending on your experience and what you bring to the table.
