We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Software Development to lead our software development team in both greenfield and brownfield projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, project management, and team leadership. - Team Leadership: Manage and integrate employee and first-level manager activities across digital software application development, application analysis and design, information management, architecture, computing security, and project support.
- Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of software projects, ensuring alignment with business goals and timelines.
- Greenfield Development: Drive the design and implementation of new software solutions from the ground up, utilizing modern technologies and best practices.
- Brownfield Development: Manage the enhancement and maintenance of existing software systems, ensuring they meet current business needs and performance standards.
- Strategic Development: Develop and execute integrated departmental plans, policies, and procedures, providing input on departmental business and technical strategies, goals, and objectives.
- Talent Acquisition: Acquire and retain digital talent for software application development and management activities, ensuring a skilled and motivated team.
- Supplier Management: Provide technical management of suppliers and lead process improvements to enhance software development efficiency.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports to ensure alignment and support for projects.
- Technical Oversight: Provide oversight and approval of technical approaches, products, and processes, ensuring high-quality outcomes.
- Employee Development: Manage and provide developmental opportunities for employees and first-level managers, fostering a culture of growth and learning.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks in projects and develop mitigation strategies to ensure successful project delivery.
- Continuous Improvement: Promote and implement best practices in software development, including Agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
Basic Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in software development.
- 3+ years of experience building, managing and mentoring high-performance, diverse software development teams.
- 3+ years of experience working with Cloud native development.
- Strong knowledge of software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, etc.).
- Experience with cloud technologies (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) and modern development frameworks.
- Experience in AI: Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks and tools (e.g., AWS Q, Github CoPilot, Claude CODE) and understanding of AI concepts, algorithms, and applications.
- Proven ability to drive technical direction while enabling team health and delivery velocity.
- Ability to drive software development standards and guardrails.
- Must be legally able to work in Canada.
- Individual must not pose a risk for safeguarding controlled goods.
- Must be eligible to handle US export-controlled data.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven experience in managing both greenfield and brownfield software projects.
- Proficiency in programming languages and/or technical stack such as - Java, Python, Angular, JSP, REST/SOAP, Java Spring Boot, Git, Jenkins, Junit, Kubernetes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.
