The Opportunity
Our Mobile Engineering team is growing and we're looking for a hands-on Mobile Engineer on our Hardware Connectivity team, working to optimize lower level foundational systems like the connections between our apps and our Bluetooth- & Wi-Fi enabled IoT hardware products. Join us in our mission to help people get their best sleep by helping build features for our mobile app and platform bringing a suite of new software and smart hardware products to market. The ideal candidate will be an experienced engineer who is passionate about using technology to solve problems for consumers. You will be working alongside a talented and systems-focused team to build our scalable platform.
This role is remote-friendly but must be based in the U.S. or Canada. Hatch is based in California, so we ask that you’re available during PST/PDT hours.
What You’ll Do
📅 Within 3 Months:
- Through coding project(s), learn our application architecture, development process, and how we work by building and shipping features & improvements
- Rotate amongst our 3 Pillars to learn about Hatch as a whole
- Understand business and department goals, and develop empathy for our customers
- Partner with management and implementation teams to learn and understand our processes
- Collaborate with business partners to identify opportunities and areas of improvement
- Begin digging into the lower foundational layers of the app (e.g., bluetooth/MQTT communication)
🚀 Within 6 Months:
- Develop, monitor, maintain, and optimize mobile applications for bluetooth- and Wi-Fi enabled IoT hardware products
- Understand and debug issues spanning app, cloud, and firmware domains in order to make system level design tradeoffs and decisions
- Have a working knowledge of our tech stack including Mobile apps, backend, IoT, observability, CI/CD systems
✨ After 1 Year:
- Collaborate with teams and business partners to help prioritize work efforts that will benefit our users, business partners, and stakeholders
- Contribute deeply on initiatives for core systems to help provide a world class experience for our users
- Develop long-term solutions while being mindful of short-term priorities and requirements
What You’ll Bring:
- Proficiency in Swift, SwiftUI, concurrency, and Swift Package Manager (modularization)
- Strong leadership skills both driving projects and working cross functionally
- Experience structuring (or restructuring) a large iOS app with more than 10-20 developers
- Experience with RESTful APIs, JSON, async and cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, etc.)
- Experience working with IoT, Bluetooth, and/or connected hardware devices a bonus
- Experience with CI and delivery tools a bonus (Fastlane, TestFlight, GitHub Actions, Ruby/Python/Shell scripting)
- Passion for exploring and hands-on with new technologies that improve our products for consumers
- Passion and strong competence for software development practices and architecture regardless of the platform
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
