Provides administrative and analytical support to Portfolio Managers, which can include monitoring portfolio performance, conducting statistical analyses, assembling and reviewing data, and completing performance attribution analyses. May monitor cash flows and maintain target allocations.

  • Build and maintain a central data repository system for BMOLA investment management whose purpose will be to consolidate into a single database all investments and investment-related items for better reporting and tracking.
  • Work closely with the Investments team to design, code, build, and maintain an extensive investments summary report to be updated weekly, and more frequently if required, for distribution to senior management within BMO Insurance and BMO Wealth.
  • Coordinate closely with the Asset-Liability Management group to ensure that all relevant investments data and information are provided to it as frequently and timely as required.
  • Provide reports and inputs for accounting, capital, asset-liability management, and other key stakeholders.
  • Perform ongoing monitoring of the investment portfolio and provide regular reporting of portfolio metrics.
  • Liaise with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure proper accounting records are established for different investment activities.
  • Work closely with Finance Operations for effective cash management.
  • Support product design and pricing initiatives by providing investment expertise.
  • Maintain various product level hedging programs.
  • Manage and rebalance BMOLA investment portfolio as needed.
  • Conduct independent analysis and due diligence of available investment opportunities.
  • Explore and propose emerging investment opportunities or alternative asset classes suitable for insurance companies.
  • Actively collaborate with different areas of BMO to carry out daily investment activities.
  • Conduct market research and stay abreast of new developments in the investment industry.
  • Perform credit analysis to monitor and actively manage credit exposures.
  • Facilitate timely transfers of cash and/or securities between internal and external accounts.
  • Build effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Ensure alignment between stakeholders.
  • Provide specialized consulting, analytical and technical support.
  • Exercise judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
  • Work independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

  • In-depth understanding of financial mathematics, stochastic modeling, scenario analysis and asset allocation.
  • Hands on experience with Python preferred.
  • Strong understanding of investments and derivatives.
  • Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills to support the effective design and use of spreadsheets to perform actuarial work.
  • Good presentation skills
  • Good understanding of life insurance products and actuarial concepts
  • Experience and proficiency with python considered a very strong asset.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst or Associate of the Society of Actuaries preferred. A combination of both is considered a strong asset.

Salary:

$95,200.00 - $176,400.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
