Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia is currently searching for a Senior Human Resources Generalist to join our team in Burnaby on a contract until the end of June 2027. 
The Senior Human Resources Generalist’s (“SHRG”) responsibilities include acting as a key senior contributor in developing, implementing, and maintaining human resources programs and policies, and acting as a senior level resource supporting employee relations. This includes but is not limited to complaint intake and investigations, leaves management and workplace accommodations, and other HR-related projects and initiatives.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING 

  • Working with the Manager, Human Resources (“MHR”), Associate Director, HR (“ADHR”) and external legal counsel or investigators, functions as a senior level human resources professional and key advisor to leaders on matters related to complex employee relations matters, such as performance, accommodations, leaves, complaints, and investigations. 
  • Responsible for researching, drafting, reviewing, and managing sound human resource policies, practices and procedures that are complex, clear, effective, and compliant and consistent with related legislation and organizational requirements. 
  • Functions as a senior-level human resources professional and key contributor in both day-to-day and forward-looking HR projects and initiatives. Works closely with the MHR and other project partners, including the Director, HR and Facilities (“DHRF”) and ADHR as well as members of the leadership team and the executive team, fostering collaboration and ensuring project deliverables are understood and realized.
  • Participates in and contributes toward initiatives related to workplace safety and safety related compliance. Participates in the Joint Health and Safety Committee and related processes and administration on an as-needed or rotational basis.  
  • Works with the MHR, ADHR, and DHRF on additional day-to-day Human Resources related tasks, initiatives, and projects including but not limited to those related to employee relations issues, compensation and benefits, workplace investigations, legal reviews, and formal employee communication in the form of letters, addendums, agreements or announcements. Responsible for researching and understanding related legislation, practices, and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned by direct leader and, as appropriate, members of the departmental leadership team.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE 

  • 7+ years of related human resources generalist experience showing distinct progression in senior responsibility, complexity, scope, and required competency.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field is required.
  • CPHR certification is required.
  • Experience with researching, drafting and implementing complex HR policy.
  • Experience researching, understanding and applying related employment standards and human rights and workplace safety legislation.
  • Strong attention to detail, a senior ability to work independently, and advanced critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with developing and implementing complex organizational development projects.
  • Experience working with confidential and/or sensitive personnel issues including complex investigations, performance management, and employee discipline and terminations. 
  • Strong and empathetic communication skills. Able to craft clear, compelling written communication that not only informs but also connects with and understands the audience.
  • Possesses a change management mindset.

This role offers a competitive compensation and benefits program including an annual salary within our hiring range of $99,000 to $110,500 (pro-rated based on the length of contract). For full-time contract employees on this length of contract, we offer:

  • 8% additional pay in lieu of benefits.

  • 10 vacation days per annum (pro-rated based on the length of contract). 

  • A flex day program offering additional paid days off (usually alternating Fridays) as a result of a compressed work week. 

  • A hybrid work model with an assigned schedule confirming days worked remotely and days worked in-office. This role will be required to work in-office a minimum of 2 days per week during regular business operations.  

  • The required tools, equipment, and technology for employees to work remotely are provided. 

  • Free parking at the office, or a transit reimbursement offered to employees who take transit to work; we are centrally located near bus and Skytrain stops.
