Job Description

At CIMA+, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Geotechnical Project Manager to join our team. In this role, you will collaborate within multidisciplinary teams on exciting and complex projects, contributing significantly to the field of geotechnical engineering. Given you will be our first Geotechnical PM in Vancouver, you will play a key role in shaping our projects and driving success.

Projects will involve the design and rehabilitation of various infrastructure, including roads, buildings, hydraulic structures, slope stability, soil dynamics, and both temporary and permanent retaining structures. You will have the opportunity to work with both public and private sector clients primarily in British Columbia, with potential projects in other regions of Canada.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan and design geotechnical projects by conducting site investigations, including exploratory drilling, sampling, testing, and data analysis to provide actionable recommendations.
  • Provide technical support to other teams, including those involved in the design and planning of tunnels, highways, and bridges with geotechnical considerations.
  • Evaluate geological and geotechnical data to assess the characteristics and behavior of soil and rock masses at construction sites, determining stability, load-bearing capacity, and settlement characteristics.
  • Oversee project execution to ensure timely, cost-effective completion while maintaining safety standards. Collaborate with construction teams to ensure design specifications are met.
  • Provide guidance to junior team members, offering mentorship, training, and oversight to ensure high-quality work and deliverables.
  • Contribute to the development of detailed geotechnical designs, technical drawings and construction specifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
  • Identify, assess, and manage risks associated with geotechnical projects, including natural hazards like earthquakes, landslides, and floods.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing updates on project status, negotiating contracts, and offering technical support.
  • Establish and oversee quality control procedures to ensure precision and reliability in geotechnical analyses and reports, following industry standards and best practices.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Post-graduate degree is considered an asset.
  • At least 12 years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering, particularly with linear infrastructure projects, and a proven track record of leading complex studies and managing large-scale projects.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in British Columbia, or eligibility for registration with the EGBC within 3 months.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software for slope stability, drainage, and finite element analysis.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, including geotechnical and geological engineers, as well as environmental specialists.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills, and collaboratively as part of a team, managing tasks and deliverables effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey project status and technical information to clients and stakeholders.

We offer a flexible hybrid work model, enabling a mix of remote and office-based work in Vancouver, BC, allowing you to balance your professional and personal commitments.

If you’re passionate about geotechnical engineering and want to be part of a dynamic, forward-thinking team, we encourage you to apply and contribute to our continued success!
