About the Role:

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineering Manager for the Core AI/ML team, you will lead the design and delivery of the machine learning systems and frameworks that power Remitly's next generation of products. The Core AI/ML team partners across Remitly's domains, including Global Money Movement, Treasury, Identity and Trust, Promotions, and Referrals, to make machine learning accessible, scalable, and effective for every product and customer experience.

You will lead a team of Machine Learning Engineers and Data Scientists, set technical direction, and work closely with cross-functional partners in various domains across the company.

You Will:

  • Lead and grow a high-performing team of Machine Learning Engineers and Data Scientists who prototype, develop, deploy, maintain, and iterate upon end-to-end ML systems, from data and feature pipelines to model research and production deployment.
  • Partner with Product, Analytics, and Engineering teams to define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Remitly's AI/ML applications.
  • Implement best practices for MLOps, including automated retraining, drift detection, CI / CD, and observability.
  • Establish clear technical standards, documentation, and design review processes that ensure quality and maintainability across the ML lifecycle.
  • Mentor engineers, foster collaboration, and create an inclusive and supportive team culture.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and influence the company's approach to AI investments and innovation.

You Have:

  • 10+ years of experience in software or machine learning engineering with a record of delivering ML systems in production.
  • 3+ years of experience managing or leading technical teams in applied ML or data-focused domains.
  • Deep understanding of the machine learning lifecycle, including data ingestion, feature engineering, model training and deployment, A/B testing, and monitoring.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and familiarity with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn.
  • Experience with large-scale customer facing ML systems.
  • Experience designing and maintaining systems in a cloud environment such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Expertise in one or more of Personalization, Natural Language Processing, Causal Inference, Deep Learning, Knowledge Graphs would be a plus.
  • Proven ability to balance technical leadership with strategic thinking and execution.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical partners.
  • A passion for developing people and empowering teams to achieve meaningful impact.

Compensation Details. The starting base salary range for this position is $200,000 - $250,000. In Canada, Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
