Diamond Foundry is looking to bring on a highly skilled Controls Engineer to join our Automation and Advanced Factory Systems team. This person will help design controls and software for our next generation equipment. Collaborating with engineers across various teams, you will design and spec multidisciplinary control systems for the next equipment expansion of the company.
Responsibilities
- Software Development: Write and deploy high-quality code for PLCs, controllers, vision systems, and motor controls to facilitate the startup, operation, and troubleshooting of new and existing industrial equipment.
- System Design: Design electrical control panels and comprehensive document assemblies, overseeing component selection, mechanical layout, cabling, and packaging.
- Technical Specification: Identify and specify optimal sensors, sensing technologies, vision systems, and lighting solutions tailored to specific automation requirements.
- System Diagnostics: Troubleshoot complex industrial electrical and control systems, including power supplies, sensors, PLCs, and peripheral devices.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with multidisciplinary teams to solve complex engineering challenges, designing upgrades and retrofits that enhance tool reliability and process capabilities.
Requirements
- Education & Core Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Controls, Mechanical, or Mechatronic Engineering (or similar) with 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, deploying, and troubleshooting control systems in an industrial environment, ranging from three-phase AC power to low-voltage DC signals.
- Programming & Software Logic: Advanced proficiency in PLC programming (ladder logic/structured text) for systems such as Automation Direct, Allen Bradley, Siemens, or CodeSys; robotic programming (Epson, Universal, Kuka); and PC-based controls including Python, Arduino, and ACS.
- Vision System Expertise: Demonstrated experience in the programming and integration of industrial vision platforms, specifically Keyence, Cognex, or equivalent vision system tools.
- Physical Design & Schematics: Proficient in the hands-on design and assembly of control enclosures using hand/power tools and 2D/3D CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, DraftSight), with the ability to create and edit complex electrical schematics and P&ID drawings.
- Compliance & Standards: Thorough understanding of industrial control equipment regulations and safety standards, including NFPA 79, UL 508, and related industry-specific protocols.
