Overview

Anovia is seeking an independent contractor to join a telecommunications client's mission-critical call handling platform development team on a fixed-term through the end of Q1 2027. The team is migrating a number of virtual machines from CentOS 7 to RedHat Enterprise Linux 9 and migrating 32-bit C++ subsystems to 64-bit. Day to day, you will support this migration work alongside an established engineering team, allowing the core team to remain focused on field support while you drive the platform modernization forward on a set schedule.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on C++ developer with deep Linux experience who is comfortable working independently against a defined migration plan. You bring strong technical judgement, clear communication, and the ability to collaborate closely with an existing team without requiring extensive onboarding.

Responsibilities
  • Migrate 32-bit call handling C++ subsystems to a 64-bit architecture.
  • Develop scripts and techniques to migrate operating systems from CentOS 7 to RHEL 9.
  • Support the modernization of Java-based web configurators.
  • Participate in the testing and release of the migrated system.
  • Update CI/CD pipelines and other DevOps tools to support the migration project.
  • Perform security tests and implement remediations.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of experience developing C++ applications on Linux platforms.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Linux operating system development and bash scripting.
  • Strong technical grasp of networking, virtualization, and security.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada without employer sponsorship.
  • Able contract directly with a Canadian entity as a corporation or sole proprietor.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with an established engineering team.
Nice to Have

Candidates with experience in any of the following areas will be given preference:

  • Background in multi-threaded, high-availability real-time systems.
  • Experience with other Linux operating system migrations.
  • Experience with agentic AI techniques for software engineering.
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, or C#.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps toolchains such as TeamCity, Perforce, Jenkins, or GitHub.
  • Exposure to voice infrastructure and telephony, such as SIP, PBX, and PSTN.
