Boon is the professional AI platform built specifically for construction. Founded in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2023 by product and engineering leaders from Samsara, Apple, Google and DoorDash. Boon is backed by leading Silicon Valley venture capitalists.
Our AI agents embed directly into existing workflows, from preconstruction estimating to bid management. They automate the repetitive tasks that drain time and margins while surfacing the insights leaders need to make faster and more confident decisions.
The result is measurable impact. Teams move faster, bids are submitted sooner, win rates increase, and costs are reduced. Boon enables construction companies to build more, generate more revenue, and grow with confidence.
As a Senior Applied ML Engineer focused on Computer Vision at Boon, you will lead the development of cutting-edge vision systems that transform how construction companies process and understand visual data. You'll be responsible for innovating on and shipping production-grade computer vision systems that directly impact our customers. Innovation is business critical, this is not a research position. You will architect end-to-end ML pipelines, mentor other engineers, and drive the evolution of our computer vision capabilities as we expand into new use cases across both industries.
Our vision systems tackle diverse challenges across construction: from processing complex engineering plans and construction drawings to understanding technical documents. You'll work on parsing intricate blueprints and architectural diagrams, extracting structured data from multi-page technical specifications, and building intelligent systems that can reason about complex visual information. Your work will bring the latest advances in computer vision research into traditional industries that power a significant portion of the global economy.
In this role, you will:Design and architect end-to-end computer vision systems for complex document understanding, including OCR, edge detection, vector detection, and semantic comprehension of construction drawings and technical diagrams
Build, fine-tune, and deploy production ML models using state-of-the-art techniques—whether that means training from scratch, adapting open-source models, or developing novel architectures for our unique use cases
Own the full ML lifecycle from data annotation pipelines and model training to deployment, monitoring, and scaling in production environments
Drive technical decisions around model architecture, tooling, and infrastructure to ensure our vision systems are reliable, performant, and maintainable at scale
Mentor and guide other engineers on the team, establishing best practices for computer vision development and deployment
Work directly with construction customers to understand their workflows, rapidly experiment with solutions, and iterate based on real-world feedback
You have deep expertise in computer vision tasks like segmentation, object detection, OCR, and diagram understanding, with a track record of deploying these systems in production
You're experienced with fine tuning Vision Transformers and Multi-modal LLMs
You're energized by end-to-end ownership—from annotating data and training models to monitoring them in production—rather than pure research
You're comfortable moving fast, experimenting quickly, and iterating based on customer feedback in an early-stage environment
You have strong software engineering skills and can write production-quality code that others will build upon
You're excited about bringing cutting-edge computer vision research into traditional industries and seeing your work create real-world impact
You enjoy mentoring others and elevating the technical capabilities of the entire team
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field required; Master's or PhD preferred
5+ years of hands-on experience building and deploying computer vision or ML systems in production environments
Proven experience with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.) and computer vision libraries (OpenCV, Tesseract, YOLO, etc)
Strong Python programming skills and experience with modern ML tooling and infrastructure
Demonstrated ability to take computer vision projects from research/experimentation through to production deployment
Track record of making technical decisions and driving projects to completion with minimal supervision
Open to non-traditional backgrounds if you can demonstrate equivalent skills through side projects, open-source contributions, or published work
At Boon, we want to attract and retain the best employees and compensate them in a way that appropriately and fairly values their individual contribution to the company. With that in mind, we carefully consider a number of factors to determine the appropriate starting pay for an employee, including their primary work location and an assessment of a candidate’s skills and experience, as well as market demands and internal parity. This estimate can vary based on the above mentioned factors, so the actual starting annual base salary may be above or below this range. A Boon employee may be eligible for additional forms of compensation, depending on their role, including sales incentives, discretionary bonuses, and/or equity in the company.
