Job Overview:
As a Senior Analytics Engineer at Spring, you are a technical leader and strategic problem-solver who architects the company’s curated data marts and semantic layer. You design and govern dimensional models that unify metrics across the organization, decouple business reporting from complex source systems, and enable analysts and business teams to self-serve accurate, consistent data.
You own the design and execution of complex analytics initiatives, making key architectural decisions on how we leverage DBT, Snowflake, and the surrounding modern data ecosystem. You’re skilled at navigating ambiguity, balancing trade-offs between speed and sustainability, and ensuring that our analytics architecture scales with business.
You are an advocate for AI-augmented development, both in how you and your team build and in what the platform enables. You evaluate and integrate new tools to improve productivity, automate documentation, detect anomalies, and accelerate model design. You model responsible AI usage and help others incorporate it thoughtfully into their workflows.
You work across teams to frame business problems, define success metrics, and align data models with business goals. You are a trusted partner to senior stakeholders and analytics engineering leadership, influencing platform strategy by setting modelling and governance standards, mentoring engineers across levels, and guiding the technical direction of the team.
What you’ll do:
- Architect, govern, and evolve curated data marts and semantic layer models across multiple business domains
- Define and enforce standards for dimensional/star schema design, DBT project organization, testing, documentation, and naming conventions
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to unify metrics, resolve inconsistencies, and improve data product scalability and maintainability
- Translate complex, ambiguous business needs into clear, reusable, and technical sound data products
- Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to ensure models serve current and future analytical needs
- Review and guide the work of other analytics engineers, providing mentorship and technical direction
- Drive adoption of observability, testing, and governance practices across the analytics engineering team
- Evaluate and integrate AI-assisted tooling for development, documentation, and anomaly detection. Ensuring responsible and effective use aligned with governance standards
Requirements:
- Extensive experience designing and implementing dimension/star schemas in a modern data stack (dbt, Snowflake, Hex, Tableau)
- Expert-level SQL skills, including complex transformations and performance optimization within DBT
- Proven experience leading the design and governance of large-scale semantic layer implementations
- Ability to translate ambiguous business problems into structure, well-modeled data products
- Strong track record of mentoring, conducting code reviews, and raising technical standards across a team
- Experience establishing governance frameworks for metrics, testing, and data product lifecycle management
- Effective and responsible use of AI-assisted tools in development workflows
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; a trusted advisor across engineering and business teams
What We Will Give You:
- Competitive annual salary ranging from $120,000 to $140,000, reflective of experience and impact.
- Comprehensive benefits package, including extended health, dental, and vision coverage — with 100% of monthly premiums covered by the Spring.
- GRSP matching program to support your long-term financial goals.
- Transit-Friendly Employer (Transit allowance).
- A modern, collaborative workspace in the heart of downtown Vancouver.
- Ongoing career growth opportunities
