Do you enjoy working on a variety of financial projects and identifying opportunities for business process improvements? We’re looking for a Senior Accountant to join us at Thinkific. 

As a Senior Accountant at Thinkific, you will be an integral member of a fast-paced accounting team. You will be responsible for supporting daily accounting operations including revenue accounting, accounts receivable, and gross marginal analysis. You will support a timely monthly and quarter end close. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, you’ll partner with the rest of the Accounting team and collaborate with other departments on projects such as internal and external reporting, system implementation, process improvement, and sales tax. 

Your goal will be to execute on the full accounting cycle. Here’s how you’ll accomplish this: 

  • Own and continuously improve the month and quarter-end processes for revenue recognition, accounts receivable and contract asset activities.  
  • Complete account reconciliations, continuity schedules, and journal entries including expense accruals.
  • Prepare and present detailed revenue, cost of sales and gross margin performance and variance analysis to management, highlighting key metrics, variances, and actionable insights.
  • Ensure full compliance with IFRS 15 and internal policies, procedures related to revenue recognition and reporting, including providing advice to operational teams and staying current with accounting standards. 
  • Own account receivable reconciliations, refund and loss reporting, reporting on bad debts, and provide inputs for forecasting related metrics.
  • Key contact for revenue and AR related external audit deliverables, ensuring timely and accurate provision of information including preparation and review of working papers and cross functional coordination of audit test work.
  • Build relationships with other members of the organization, becoming a key point of contact in the finance team for queries around expenses and accruals.
  • Support the accounting team in other month-end tasks as required
  • Build procedures to create efficiencies and document internal control processes.
  • Train and provide mentorship to new and existing employees on accounting systems and processes.
  • Provide support to the Financial Reporting team for quarterly and annual preparation of financial statements disclosures for revenue, cost of sales, contract assets and account receivables.
  • Ad-hoc projects including; channel partnerships & sales tax

The person we have in mind likely:

  • Has 4+ years of accounting experience including previous experience at a Big 4 accounting firm 
  • Has a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other related degree, and holds a CPA designation or is in the process of obtaining the designation 
  • Possesses advanced knowledge in Excel or Google Sheets
  • Shows a track record of critical thinking and problem-solving independently, including past experience implementing accounting improvements
  • Loves to learn and grow. They’ve found (and keep looking for) ways to level up their skills in this field, whether that’s through formal education, gaining professional experience, or maybe even building their own business 

These things would also be nice, but we think you could learn them on the job: 

  • Experience using Workday Financials 
  • Previous experience working in SaaS

The recruitment compensation range for this position is $78,000-$97,000 CAD
